I don't hold Tyson in high regard, but I have to admit, had a 21 year old Tyson hit a 21 year old Ali like the way Cooper nailed Ali, somehow I think we wouldn't be talking about a torn glove 50 years later. lol
There's a lot of myths about Ali, the one being the gloves torn by Dundee and the rock salt that revived him when he was about to sleep, i believe a lot more. All these myths never tarnish the legend of Ali.
50 years since Cassius Clay vs Henry Cooper....one left hook that nearly changed history?
it could of dropped Ali and get kayoed then IMO in the rematch he would get back at Cooper strong. That's Ali.No Henry Cooper loss will change Cassius Clay's history forever. Only Muhammad Ali
Then Cassius Clay was given valuable time needed to recover because of the genius of his corner man Angelo Dundee. Dundee made a near invisible slit in Clay's boxing glove such a visible tear he was about fully recovered by the next round and the rest is history!
All books on Muhammad Ali say that Angelo Dundee gained an extra minute for Clay to recover. Dundee's own words say - "I noticed a small tear in the glove from round one - I put a finger in that tear and ripped it open further". No blade or knife was used.
I saw the fight, and the torn glove is not a myth.
At this stage of his career, Clay could lose to Tyson.
If Ali's arm had not gotten tangled in the ropes...and if he got knocked down...Ali would have been out cold.
Luck favours the brave!
tyson would bt ali
50 years since clay came to london to fight henry cooper ,
when i was a kid i was told stories of this fight with cooper flooring clay and the split glove , one of the myths is about a long rest between rounds but it never happened it was slightly over 5/6 seconds not the minute some have said .
BQ cassius clay of 50 years ago (aged 21) vs mike tyson aged 21 .....
