Alcohol at a 1pm college graduation party?

You said that there will be at least 2 in attendance who have abused alcohol in the past PLUS the guest of honor doesn't drink.

No alcohol! What if those who have abused in the past are in sober programs or have committed themselves to sober lifestyles?

Your best bet is to have no alcohol.

If at least 7 of the people there do not or cannot drink, I would go with nonalcoholic. You can buy carbonated or fizzy apple and grape juice. There are also good sparkling non-alcoholic punch recipes using soda that can be festive; plenty available online. You can rent punch bowls and cups if you do not have a set or know someone you can borrow from.

Always good to have something, just in case

you can serve wine

Hello!

I am hosting a surprise college graduation party for my mom who just earned her college degree. The party will be held at 1pm on a Sunday and will be attended by mostly her former co-workers (she was their boss but has since moved on to another job), some of my friends, and a couple close family members (all are adults but one teenager).

I do not drink and I know for sure that 3 other people attending do not drink, including the guest of honor herself. I also know that 2 people attending the party have issues with abusing alcohol.

My question is, should I have alcohol at this party or not? I'm trying to make it more upscale and I feel it needs something like wine or champagne, it is a celebration after all, but not beer... but I don't know if it is appropriate or needed?

Please help!
