Boxing: Is Alvarez is so young, will the constant improvement mean we will see the best Alvarez ever next week?

What will he bring new?

Everyone is going to have a tendency to lean towards Mayweather because they are tired of him proving them wrong. Take that out of the equation and his undefeated record and just look at the fighters and it becomes a closer fight.

Floyd has fought more world class legendary fighters then Canelo however they were at the tail end of their careers. In Canelo you have a fighter who although did not fight world class opposition still has an excellent amateur background plus 40 some fights. Although he is young he is experienced, he is not a Chavez who built his record on set ups, he has fought legit opponents, not world class but certainly some have been.

I like the fact that nobody on Canelos team wanted him to fight Trout but Canelo did what few other fighters don't do and ignored his management and promoter and refused to fight anyone but Trout. And when he fought trout he ran into some stylistic problems but instead of giving in he pressed on, got more aggressive and just pressure Trout until he got the knockdown and won the fight, to me that shows great resolve and great heart, this kid is not here looking for a big pay day like so many other of Mayweathers opponents.

I'm not saying they didn't try but Its been years since I've seen any fighter that was truly confident they were going to beat Mayweather. There is also the tendency to think that if Mayweather is fighting him then he must know he can beat him. Well in this situation Mayweather is getting 41million + ppv sales, its likely he would have fought King Kong for that type of money.

So you have a big, strong, young Mexican with Irish blood in him who's been boxing since he was 8, he is not as fast but his power is ten fold and his chin seems impenetrable. He has never lost and is truly confident he will win. He has been improving every fight so if he improves from Trout we might just see him at his absolute prime or a fight before it.

One thing I liked is when he told Oscar "You know what you did wrong" and he went on to say how Oscar was bigger he needed to keep jabbing and landing anywhere and everywhere which Oscar was doing for the first half and what Cotto was doing for a few rounds. Make no mistake this kid is confident.

That being said as long as Floyd don't get old there is no reason to think he cant pitter patter, move, score points and run out the clock, can Canelo cut off the ring? He does have good foot work.

If you think boxing is maneuvered by money then it makes business sense for Canelo to win a decision, Mayweather to win a rematch and then lose the rubber match, no doubt work in a deal where Mayweather gets a % of Canelos next so many fights, Mayweather then fights Pacquiao and should he win fights Canelo again and if he loses to Pacquiao then a Mega Match happens between Pacquiao and Canelo and Mayweather takes a % of that fight.

Is that in the back of Mayweathers mind? Is Haymen in his ear explaining this? If its a close fight all he would have to do is coast for a few rounds and give them to Canelo. So its an interesting fight to say the least.

Will we see the best Canelo next week? I don't know but we will likely see a better version then the the Trout fight and the Trout version was pretty damn impressive.

sean g what scares me is Canelo's weight this isn't a 34 or 35 year old past his prime fighter.this is a 23 year old nearly prime should be middleweight.trust me I fought for 7 years 2 pounds is nothing when I fought at the super middlweight level it would have been nothing for me to make the middleweight level.I seriously have never seen this work out for the defensive fighter.look at it like this Floyds defense is like a wall made to stop a battering ram but if they are throwing gernades and missles then your defense is useless.I think after 3 or 4 rounds Floyds already fragile hands and arms are going to just ache and he will slow down.

Man im serious Canelo is no idiot and he is very skilled in the ringand he will weigh nearly 15 or 17 pounds more then Mayweather.this is a big deal.

no.he will have trained his heart out for this fight but bear in mind that he is young,i don't feel his athleticism will deteriorate any time soon and he only has experience to gain as he continues to fight at the top level.i fell he will continue to push the boundaries of his talent

bq- we will most likely see a slightly sharper/fitter canelo than last time.

he is a great talent but so is may.styles make fights and i think canelo's success will be limited.fast hands are key to beating mayweather.canelo isn't quick enough imo and looks ordinary in this fight

Only one boxing expert is picking Canelo over Floyd. Safe bet is to bet Floyd to win. Also, is the expert picking Canelo over Floyd the same one that thought Cotto would upset Floyd? I forget...

In all honestly, he is going to have to be a 250% version of his previous self on fight night if he wants to upset Mayweather.

What will he bring new?
