CUBAN THEMED PARTY DECORATIONS?

Avocado salad and tortillas (the egg kind - like a frittata) to start. There are some yummy Cuban finger food appetizers, but they are mostly fried and don't seem that great for an outdoor summer party.

Flan and/or tropical fruit ice cream for dessert.

End with Cuban coffee.

Decorate with palm tree (standup, strings of minis, actual small potted - whatever you can find), hanging lights/candles, big bowls of tropical fruits (coconuts, mango, papaya, bananas, etc.), big bright tropical flowers and plants.

We just got back from Cuba and had some people over for dinner - so we decided to start with Mojitos. The setup was absolutely gorgeous (forgot to take pictures). We made a mint simple syrup and had that in one pretty pitcher, pre-squeezed lime juice in another. All the cocktail supplies out and ready to go. Took a really big flat wicker basket (probably 2 feet across) and loaded it with piles of limes and mint leaves - I shopped at a local Asian store and they were both dirt cheap so it was easy to do.

You MUST play Cuban music!

my husband is part cuban, so i thought a cuban themed birthday would be fun. any ideas for decorations? it will be outside near a pool, casual and the weather should be hot. i'm planning on serving mojitos & cuban pork sandwiches, any appetizer ideas? or dessert ideas?
