Manny pacquiao is small for the welterweights a fallacy, agree or disagree? Why?

Pacman was small before but he has grown into the weight division.

Allot of fighters throughout history have seemed small but the weight and sometimes the reach has proven that they weren't so small.

Example; Barbados Joe Walcott was a 5'1'' welterweight but his reach and weight were about the same as that of Miguel Cotto.

The steroid taking Evander Holyfield won his title in cruiserweight by winning a split decision [robbery] against Dwight Muhammad who was 5'5''.

5'5'' Cruiserweight is real short yet Muhammad Dwights had success, his reach was the same as that of heavyweight Mike Tyson despite being 6 inches shorter.

@Astro Creep you don't know **** about boxing.

Floyd Mayweather is a 5'8'' welterweight and superwelterweight [so he's short according to you] yet he is 1 of the tallest welterweights fighting today. In the 80's or 40's he may have been considered short but today he is on the taller side.

Teddy, idk really what's Filipinos' average height. If 5'6" of today's generation is above most Pinoys, i would see myself taller than most. T'was not the case my friend. But that's beside the question.

Manny pacquiao is small for the welterweights a fallacy, agree or disagree? Why?

If Sam Langford who stood just as tall as Manny became a heavyweight, by any means Pacquiao shouldn't be considered a SMALL welterweight. IMHO there's no one too small in combat sport like boxing. Its just that someone's got a big heart.

What's wrong with you,Teddy. You said you're a Filipino but why you have to ask this question. How many Asian are there fighting at the higher weight class than Welter. Do you remember Big Ben. a behemoth who they try hard to teach how to play Basketball but doesn't have the proper coordination that he was considered as misfit of science? Look at Yao Ming and his shortened Basketball career. That kind is very rare on Asians. I will make a guess that you are no taller than 5'9", medium built unless you like eating letchon that makes you over weight and this I also assumed that you don't have or even experience the kind of life Manny Pacquiao have since you attended college unlike Manny who have to box to eat and not eat to box. I can say that you have a well developed structure unlike Manny who only develop his at the late age after earning enough to afford it. With these Ted, you can answer your own question.

To answer your very easy question, is to jump off weights is not easy but achievable by anybody...Just like donaire, i believed he can jump and fight at welter...But the question is, can he still be as dominant as he was? or as dominant as pacquiao? i dont think so...People are amazed by pacquiao, even though he started at flyweight but he was able to dominate at the higher weight...

i dont agree with you at all...pac is a smaller dude, jumping off weights and still was able to dominate..thats the thing..Your a very smart retard in the whole world...

and to tell you the truth, i have been in the philippines last year before hayan hits philippines...damn, you people are midget, dwarf...you dont need to be a rocket scientist to understand that pac is a smaller dude...

dude, you spearheaded the pac-aint-a-true-welter campaigne 2-3 years ago during the height of floyds PEDs accusation...

I'm the one who pointed out pacs densed bone structure the reason why he was havin a hardtime making weight so he always moves up in weight w/c flomos like you chose to ridicule

so now pac is a true welter? wtf! hes always a true welter, yet his height is pretty short, but then again we have tyson whos also short against the hw of his era...

was pac always the smaller opponent?... check out his weight record on every fights

Teddy Teddy Teddy...

You might as well look back in Pac's late fights in the welters for reminders. Didn't you see that every Pac's opponents in the welterweights were bigger than him? Even Marquez who's not a legitimate welter is still bigger than Pacquiao.

if you make the weight limit or fight in a particular weight class, you are not too small for that weight class.

5'6" is not a legitimate welterweight, Pacquiao is 5'6"

Normal height for welterweight is 5'9"

Minimumweight 47.7 Kg Average height 5'2

Light flyweight 49 Kg Average height 5'3

Flyweight 50.8 Kg Average height 5'3

Super flyweight 52.2 Kg Average height 5'5

Bantamweight 53.5 Kg Average height 5'5

Super bantamweight 55.3 Kg Average Height 5'6

Featherweight 57.2 Kg Average height 5'7

Super featherweight 59.0 Kg Average height 5'7

Lightweight 61.2 Kg Average height 5'9

Super lightweight 63.5 Kg Average height 5'9

Welterweight 66.7 Kg Average height 5'9

Super welterweight 69.9 Kg Average height 5'10

Middleweight 72.6 Kg Average height 5'10-5'11

Super middleweight 76.2 Kg Average height 5'11-6ft

Light heavyweight 79.4 Kg Average height 6ft

Cruiserweight 90.7 Kg Average height 6'1 - 6'2

Heavyweight unlimited Average height 6'2-6'4

"His bone structure and above average Pinoy height would attest to that"

Really Pacquaio's Height is a Pinoy Above average height... really?

Hope that you can understand this comparison..

I think your argument uses VERY POOR REASONING with NOTHING to SUPPORT.

almost all Floyd fans using poor reasoning with nothing to back up..

@Ray - Lolz, really I don't know .. and what you know? lolz..

Ray your argument is a Fallacy.. bwahahahhahahaha

here's your thumbs up.. but still your argument is a Fallacy..bwahahahha

A large part of the romanticism surrounding Manny Pacquiao I believe is a perpetuated fallacy that Pacquiao is always the smaller guy.

Anyone who knows boxing, in particular Philippine boxing would know that many of our Pinoy boxing champs and greats started at lighter weights, i.e. flyweights and bantamweights before hitting their stride and making it big in the upper weights.

And that has been attributed largely to genetics, diet as well as metabolism. Pancho Villa started as flyweight in his teens and early 20s but he was already fighting ten rounders in the bantams and feathers when he was not defending his flyweight title. Had he not died suddenly at the young age of 24, we can only imagine how high he could have gone up in divisions. His last foe was JIm McLarnin, then a feather who would later win world titles at 130 through 147 lbs. Flash Elorde was a gangling bantam starting up but he would grow to become a lightweight, winning world title at 130 and almost at 126 lbs. We had Ceferino Garcia who was a lightweight but would excel at welter and middleweights. We have had Pedro Adigue who also started at bantam but peaked at lightweight and welterweight, winning a world title at 140 and even beating a future world junior middleweight champion by KO.

What am I trying to say here?

That Pacquiao has continued to grow over the years in boxing. Actually, I could say that Pacquiao was really a welterweight waiting to happen as early as his flyweight days. His bone structure and above average Pinoy height would attest to that.

So can agree that we quit this nonsense that Pacquiao is a small guy fighting the bigger guys in the upper weights?
