Martinez vs Cotto is officially OFFICIAL, so OFFICIAL picks for the fight?

Max weight is 159lb, fight is going to be at MSG (Cotto's second home), June 7th on HBO PPV.

Great fight, really looking forward to it. Right now I'm on Martinez to win.

I see it 50/50 I'm still deciding on how to root for. I'm leaning on Martinez though.

This bout will tell us how much is left in the tank of both fighters. Martinez should be the favorite here but he is coming off injury-induced long layoff. Meanwhile Cotto has been busy and although he lost two of his last three fights ( losing to Mayweather and Trout on UD and winning by TKO over Delvin Rodriguez ),Cotto did not show any wear and tear from those battles. Meanwhile, Martinez struggled in his last fight versus Martin Murray even having to rise from an 8th round knockdown in his only fight held April of 2013 yet. He also had to climb from a late round knockdown to complete a near shutout of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in his lone fight in 2012.

This will be the first time Martinez will be fighting holding a considerable size advantage over an opponent in a long time.Sergio is 5-10 while Cotto is barely 5-7 Cotto himself is no stranger to fighting bigger foes but he usually had hard time against quick, mobile and defense-oriented boxer-punchers which Martinez is one..

Given those, the odds definitely favor Martinez.

Martinez has a weight advantage, a whopping 6 inch reach advantage & a 3 inch height advantage.

I see Martinez winning by tko. With that said; Martinez has been aging badly lately and i've seen fighters age over night. Still; i don't think Martinez has to be 100% to win. Cotto is not the best at 154lbs and now he will be fighting one of the best, and the most prestigious, in middleweight.

I see this fight as being one to make Martinez look good and if he does it will set up a superfight in middleweight between Martinez vs Quilins or Martinez vs GGG.

Martinez seems to be struggling a bit in the ring lately. Cotto looking good his last few fights. 2 years ago I'd pick Martinez for the win. I'm not so sure now, Could go either way. Should be a good fight though. Regardless of the outcome.

Cotto will smash Martinez. Martinez is out of there in 10 rounds. If the fight were to happen in between 2010-2012 then the fight would be pretty even.

Well I would like to put on record NOW my opinion that both fighters are PAST IT!!

I like Cotto for this one, I think Martinez is ready to go and he's more past it than Cotto imo and I don't think his legs will carry him for 12 this time. His age catches up with him and a hungrier Miguel Cotto probably stops him late.

This fight is made to order. If Cotto was shot vs Mayweather, what will he be now. He is 1-2 in his last 3 fights. His one win was vs Delving Rodriguez (far from Middleweight king Sergio Martinez). Sergio hasn't lost in forever, although some recent wins have been lack luster... He has his trainer back and he'll have his health back. The only advantage I see for Cotto is location...MSG. Size advantage is for Sergio. Fight weight is advantage Sergio. Speed is advantage Sergio. Power is advantage Sergio. Sergio's awkward style should be an advantage. Defensive edge goes to Sergio... Prediction: Martinez WIDE UD.

Lol screw 50/50 I'm going to say it now: MARTINEZ VIA CLASS LESSON.

First of all we will see whether Martinez is damaged goods or if those injuries he got were really that bad to cause that poor performance in which I thought he lost vs Murray. Anyway I'm leaning towards it being the injuries because I'm thinking back to his fight before that where he put on a clinic vs Cruiser Chavez Jr for 11 rounds until he got buzzed, you could argue that performance was right up there with his best performance. Naturally though because of his age and him getting rocked people think he is losing a step which remains to be seen but let's face it his career set alight in 2010 when he was 35 and he is a very late bloomer starting boxing at I think 21 so he's from a similar cloth to Hopkins, Tarver etc.

Going to the actual fight before I start If any Cotto fans reading this are easily offended I apologise... Cotto's amazing comeback lol what comeback? People are getting carried away because he beat Rodriguez who was 5-4-1 in his last 10 fights lol big deal. Also he is now suddenly back to 2007 Cotto because he got Freddie Roach well all I can say to that is PLACEBOOOOO, let's face it you don't suddenly wind the clock back 7 years just by getting Roach, Rodriguez was the perfect opponent to look good against.

Even if Martinez is say 80% of what he can be I still think its easy work because I'm thinking back to when Cotto has fought speedy southpaws and Pacquiao, Trout and even Judah come to mind. He did beat Judah in the end but it was a very tough fight ( just because he dominated scorecard wise don't mean he didn't take punishment is what I mean) Judah landed some flush trademark counter left uppercuts on Cotto. Pacquiao obviously beat Cotto badly and he had moments early on with that solid jab but after a couple rounds I noticed Pacquiao started timing it with his fast southpaw left hand and then after that Cotto had very little to offer. Against Trout which was one fight before his magical comeback vs 5-4-1 Rodriguez he looked pretty dreadful. Couldn't handle the speed and check right hooks of Trout, this fight is why I think the whole Roach making him become the Cotto of old is placebo. In the commentary they were talking about how he got back to using his great left hook against Rodriguez but as far as I'm concerned he abandoned his left hook against southpaw Trout because he couldn't get it off, it's known to be difficult to land a left hook on southpaws just like when Danny hardly used it at all vs Judah. Anyway against Martinez the placebo will be exposed, Cotto will struggle to establish his jab against the lateral moving southpaw Martinez and will be repeatedly picked off by his combinations as he tries to mount his own offense.

Just to clarify I think Cotto is a truly great fighter who has had a great career it's just that I am not at all convinced by his comeback and especially against a style like Martinez which I think he is made to order for. Once Martinez has cooked Cotto slow roast style we can looked forward to Martinez vs GGG and find out who is truly the number 1 middleweight today.

Size doesn't matter so much in this fight due to Sergios style. 60/40 Sergio. I think Martinez will win a competitive but clear decision.

Cotto TKO.Martinez has shown alot of vulnerability of late and Cotto likes to pour it on.with freddie now in his corner he will have that edge on the offensive.hard to pick but i think Cotto can pull it off and will do so

Good match-up. I like Cotto to win this one but its the speed that gives Maravilla the edge.

Max weight is 159lb, fight is going to be at MSG (Cotto's second home), June 7th on HBO PPV.

Great fight, really looking forward to it. Right now I'm on Martinez to win.

Martinez by UD, or late TKO. Will be a Bloody War.

Martinez is the less shot of the two so I'd go for him

I hope Cotto kicks @ss. I want that overrated martini out. But if he tries GGG, he is going to get TKO'd.
