Boxing: Is the Porter loss evidence that Americans lack skills?

This excludes Mayweather, Hopkins, and Ward...

I swear, everybody seems to have just thrown Porter under the bus. He has skills, but he was out skilled by a good opponent that everyone underrated.

Porter's loss is evidence that Porter might lack skills. But then again, wouldn't saying that kind of take away from Brook's accomplishment? Maybe Porter does have skill but Brook simply has better skills or just out-fought him. Either way, I don't think Sean Porter is any spokesperson for the sport of boxing or for American athletes.

Not sure what kind of discussion the question is meant to spark, but obviously, from the fighters you mentioned as being excluded from the "lack of skills" argument, you are making a point. There are quality boxers from all over the world. The United States because it tends to draw people from all over the world, has benefited from diversity of cultures. That we have a great deal of resources and opportunities for people, usually economically disadvantaged, to pick up a sport and try to make a living out of it, we have good fighters from our country. Sean Porter is one of them. He has beaten quality opposition. He didn't have it together to beat Brook, but I would not say it is a lack of skill. It was just that Brook was better on that night and may be better period. I think that a rematch would be a good idea because the fight was not a blow out. So no, one fighter's loss never points to the lack of skill in a whole, diverse country full of athletes.

No just because Porter is sloppy and can't box doesn't mean all Americans are. America are always gonna be a top ten boxing nation along with Mexico and Puerto Rico.

1. USA over 400 champions

2. Mexico over 200 champions

3. Roughly 70 champions

No, its just evidence that Porter, who just happenss to be American, has less skill than Brook, who just happens to be British. Many American boxers are skilled, USA have had more champions than anyone else. No country's fighting all fight the same. Not all mexicans are pressure fighters i.e miguel vasquez

Black athletes grow up dreaming of making millions playing basketball or football. The American talent pool will always lack because of it

It's an evidence that black Americans are no good for nothing. Thank God you finally realized that too

Porter is not stereotypical of up and coming American professional fighters. On the contrary, American fighters, especially Afro-Americans are more known for their slick style much as Mexican fighters are known for their ruggedness.

You can't judge a whole on an individual.
