Once again another great match up Irene. Here's a breakdown of each fighter:

Sonny Liston

Won: 50

Lost: 4

Draws: 0

KO's: 39

World Champ from 1962-64

Best wins: TKO3 Cleveland Williams, TKO2 Cleveland Williams,KO3 Zora Folley,KO1 Floyd Patterson, KO1 Floyd Patterson

Sonny is arguably the most intimidating fighter in history and often seemed to win fights even before stepping into the ring with that menacing scowl of his. He is underrated as a boxer because of his punching power and probably had the hardest jab in heavyweight history.

George Foreman

Won: 76

Lost: 5

Draws: 0

KO's: 68

World Champion from 1973-74 and 1994-95

Best wins: TKO3 George Chuvalo, TKO2 Joe Frazier, TKO2 Ken Norton, KO5 Joe Frazier, KO2 Gerry Cooney, KO10 Michael Moorer.

George Foreman was also a very strong and intimidating fighter with enormous punching power. He had two careers one as a youing come right at you power puncher with a surly disposition and then as an older, wiser almost cheerful fighter that done the unthinkable by winning a title at age 45!

The fight

Both men are giving each other menacing stares before the fight as they meet in ring center for instructions with the crowd eagarly anticpating this big fight. Foreman rushes out of his corner straight at Liston but is met by a big left jab snapping his head back. Foreman snaps Sonny's head back with some jas of his own as each man is treading leather on an even basis early on. In round 3 Foreman is punishing ;Liston along the ropes but Liston fights back and gets the fight back to ring center. Both men are staggering around from fierce blows but neither has met the canvas yet as we go into the 7th round. Foreman is beginning to tire and Liston is too as the action slows down somewhat in rounds 8-9. Liston finds the strength to land some good jabs in round 10 and finally sends Foreman down with a vicious uppercut as Foreman comes inside. Foreman struggles to his feet but is in no shape to continue as the referee halts matters.

Liston TKO10

Young George Foreman in many ways patterned himself after Liston. It would be a fun fight, but Liston's superior jab and technical skills should earn him a stoppage in the mid to late rounds.

Wow, you know how to pickup, I think Big George would have a very slight edge, but this one could end violently within the space of one punch. I do know one thing, there is no way Sonny would have got up six times.

id say George would win, he would have more stamina and better technique. liston would end his fights quickly so his training was not meant to go the distance.

liston in a brutal slugfest will KO his protege by the 4th round.

this one would have ended in 5 rounds, whichever way it went. but i'd give it to george.

The Sonny Liston who destroyed Floyd Patterson in round 1 on Sept 26,1962 vs George Foreman 1973, who separated Joe Frazier from the World Heavyweight Title on Jan 22,1973 with a six knockdown two round TKO. Who would win and why?
