Do you think Pernell Whitaker is one of the good examples to learning defense and technique from?

Whitaker was blessed with ridiculous reflexes, his reaction time was just insane.

It's like RJJ, you can't teach what they were born with in that department. You'd be better off watching someone who isn't a freak athlete, like B-Hop (average athlete) or Floyd.

Even though Floyd is a freak athlete too, like B-Hop, his defense is basically all technique and fundamentals. He does everything the RIGHT way, and that's the type of fighters you should study.

I'd recommend studying those two guys, and another two good choices would be Andre Ward and Joel Casamayor.

Casamayor was my boy back in the day, I LOVED studying him fight and trying to learn tricks from him. He's in the same category of B-Hop and Ward, a great technician with a great inside game, and he wasn't afraid to get cagey with anyone.

I have a question for your question? Have you or anyone else ever seen anyone else fight like Whitaker? No and neither has anyone else. I would not try to teach anyone how to fight like Whitaker because most of what he did was God given. You would have a much better chance of teaching someone to fight like Floyd Mayweather than Whitaker. Whitakers technic is too complicated and unorthodox .Even if you could teach someone to fight in this style how good do you think they would be at it?

To be frank, no. Whitaker was a great counterpncher but he had incredible reflexes and abilities. De La Hoya tries to do that but he fails.

To be honest, aspiring boxers should look Ricardo Lopez, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Mikey Garcia and filipino boxer Donnie Nietes.

Nah bro definitely not. You cant coach that. You can't learn sweetness, either you have the sugar or you don't.

Yeah, I know Whitaker tends to be a little unorthodox in his style but he doesn't always fight that way. In some of his fights, he fought in a more fundamental stance keeping his hands up and was still able to successfully duck, slip and roll combinations with his fantastic reflexes. I mean a very few people possess Whitaker's reflex and lower body strength(To squat low and use head movement while being well-balanced) but he still has fundamental skills that he rarely uses because of his natural talent.

What do you guys think?
