First of all I'm in agreement 100% and argued this battle with anti-Lewis fans for years. Lewis won the fight hands down, he battered and bruised and mangled his face, Klitchko was lucky the ref didn't stop it sooner.
Now its obvious to any one that Klitchko clearly had the momentum, Lewis was exhausted and although Klitchko was tired he was not nearly as tired as Lewis, had the cut not stopped the fight its extremely likely Klitchko would have knocked Lewis out. But thats not what happened so its speculation as Vitali was tired himself and the punch out put for both men was dropping significantly so its likely the rest of the fight may have been two giants leaning on each other and circling to a decision, that outcome is just as likely as Vitali knocking Lewis out.
The only argument that can be made for Vitali's side is that he "may have" won the fight if it was not stopped which is not an argument really but a theory.
Now lets look at the reason Klitchko did so well against Lewis. First off Lewis was set to face fat 6'2 butterball Kirk Johnson and Lewis had said it would be his last fight. Lewis who is notorious for training to the level of his opponent was not in great shape, his game plan and sparring revolved around sparring partners who were short fat guys, he clearly did not expect to be in a 12 round fight. When Kirk Johnson pulled out with two weeks to go, Vitali Klitchko stepped in against a Lewis who was ill prepared and weighed the heaviest he has ever weighed and still managed to shred the face of a guy who turned to be one of the most dominant maybe the most dominant heavyweight in boxing history. Look at Klitchkos face and imagine if Klitchko could not knock Lewis out in the next couple of rounds what his face would have looked like?
So lets look at what an old, retirement mind set, fat, unprepared Lennox Lewis did to Klitchko and imagine what a well prepared, in shape Lewis would have done. Vitali got the worst possible version of Lewis possible and the best case scenario is that he can say "I may have won if Lewis didn't disfigure my face"
What you cannot say is Lewis gave Vitali a boxing lesson because he certainly did not.
Lewis won but the monster in Vitali prompted him not to return. Dont get me wrong. Im a huge Lenox fan too..and the dreadlocks LOL but Klitsko gave Lewis a tough night in return

My take on this is that the Western media deliberately picked easy opponents for klitchko so he can become popular, get into Ukraine politics, and be used as an American puppet against Putin
Lewis whooped that @ss player. The only reason Vitali didn't get knocked out was because they had to stopped it early. People don't really know boxing when they say Vitali was winning or was going to win because Lennox was just setting him up. He was cut, he punched himself out, and he was going night night.

after Lewis, was there any heavyweight who caught him flush with a power shot upstairs or downstairs - and if so what boxer was this ? What boxer lost to Vitali but could have won if he had approached the fight the right way ? or has there simply never been a boxer capable of beating Vitali ?
