Golovkin vs. John Mugabi?

Last night circa 1986?

Mugabi was a blown up junior middleweight when he fought and lost by 11th round KO to Marvin Hagler in 1986 in a courageous effort that won him wide acclaim and admiration. As the accounts of the time said, Mugabi was not yet prepared to fight somebody like Hagler and the previous knockout binges (against an assortment of light middleweight and middleweight fringe contenders) he had prior to that fight did not help him either. Mugabi would suffer back to back TKO losses to Terry Norris and Duanne Thomas and also to Gerard McClellan, his only success coming against France's rene Jacquot.

Given those facts, I don't think Mugabi of 1986 also stands a chance against a powerful legitimate middleweight world champion or at least world-beater like GGG of today.

I think GGG vs. Julian Jackson circa 1989-92 would have been a better match, and I am going for that version of Jackson whose chilling one-punch KO power counted on Norris, Herol Graham, Dennis Milton and Thomas Tate as among the hapless victims.

golovkin is better than mugabi, and also mugabi couldn't take it as well as he dished it out. although gennady's chin is untested, i still pick ggg by early ko. maybe in a few years when we know more about ggg will we be properly able to access his status among the middleweights of days gone by.

Golovkin is just too strong for Mugabi

I don't think Golovkin is ready....and i think you're overrated him as of right now. Theres lots of good competition in and near his division. Peter Quillin.
