Don't go on a diet, you'll drop tons of weight but you'll start eating again and gain it back. I did that in 8th grade and to this day I literally am scared to eat because I feel like I'm too big to fly. That is not the case though(: Do you have a wii? Something that helps me was eating like 1,500 calories a day (which is healthy!) and playing Wii fit and Just Dance. Especially the new Just Dance 4, it has Just Sweat and it's INTENSE haha.
Anywayyss(: You're not too tall, if they aren't like "Lets put her up!" Then simply ask the coach to let you fly. I didn't ask for 2 agonizing years, and the second I asked the coach basically told me that she thought I didn't want to -.- So yeah, just ask.
Keep stretching that heel stretch and scorpion, and google "scale" and "bow and arrow" once you get the hang of those(:
You are a little tall but you are very light and they normally choose the smallest and the most flexible girls to be a flyer and if you are really strong don't think your not going to be a flyer you have to have a strong core to be a flyer so you can pull scorpions and heel stretches in the air just keep stretching and if they see you have a good scorpion and heel stretch all maybe a bow and arrow then they will probably put you has a flyer but don't be sad if you don't make it as a flyer because being a base or backspot doesn't mean your not a star because you still can tumble!
honestly, it depends on your school!! they are going to pick the smallest girls to be flyers.
HOWEVER if you are one of the smallest but really strong, they are going to put you as a base. In highschool cheer that happens a lot-somtimes someone who is big/tall enough to base ends up as a flyer because they cant lift anyone.
but you seem really small. my flyer was 130 and your height (on varsity) and she wasnt even the heaviest top girl. (everyone on my team was like HUGE for some reason)
the freshman squad flyers were like 90-115 though.
advice: dont go on some stupid crash diet!!! instead, just eat healthy and try to run every day. do a bunch of sit ups. Flyers need to be really strong/muscular. it is NOT fun to base a flyer who is weak and is basically a floppy noodle.
Every night a do a workout. heres an example that you can change to your current athletic ability
30 curl ups
30 sidecrunches on each side
30 Vups
30 leg lifts
5 30 second planks
100 squats
100 toe ups
10 of each cheer jump OR plyometrics
you can go on you tube and find more exciting ab exercizes, i just used some basic ones so you would know what i'm talking about. Or google Cheer Abletics. ALSO try to run 1 or 2x a week. contrary to popular belief, cheer is very physcally demanding and you need to be in good shape.
You are very light for your age. You are the weight of an average 13 year old so I think that you will be a flyer! :) keep on stretching and practicing your balance. Also ask your coach if you can be a flyer ahead of time. If you ask her then she will probably let you fly more in the routine. You are very small and you don't need to go on a diet just make sure you stay healthy! :) good luck, hope this helps!!
Trust me you do not want to fly for hs cheer plus most hs flyers are 5'1 or under...
good weight but ur too tall
you could be an EXCELLENT base with ur height if ur strong b/c u will base shorties that are 5'4 and under and like 110 and under
Next year I am wanting to be a flyer on the high school cheer squad but I am scared I am to heavy and too tall. I am about 5'6 - 5'6 1/2. I weight about 115 and I am going on I diet because I really really want to at least be put in to try to fly. I am also stretching 2-3 times today to maby improve my chance of being a flyer. I stertch my splits the first time then I pratice my heal stretch and scripion. Then the third time I usual get on a bed and pratice locking my knees and pulling these things. Do you think I have a chance of being a flyer? Please be honest I need the truth!!!! If anything you could give me ideas on what they look for When they pick flyers. FYI I am in 8th grade right now I will be in 9th grade next year.
