Boxing: Are you impressed by Omar Figueroa?

Exciting style....

Very impressed the way he knocked out cotto and exposed him. Omar Figueroa could turn out a good champion.

Yeah, you have to wonder how often we'll ever see that again b/c the thing is, Cotto started this fight like any professional fighter starts by undergoing the process of feeling out the opponent. Figueroa on the other hand just went in straight for a kill. Abner had no chance with all that sudden pressure and I'm sure the same would've happened to Miguel, even in his prime.

Jury is still out. He certainly is fan friendly. He is a little too reckless for my taste right now. What happens when he steps up to a fighter who doesn't wilt under pressure and who can counter accurately?

@ Jeremy: I disagree. I don't know if you have ever been hit in the liver. That was the shot that put Cotto down not the two pushes to the head. Body shots just sap your energy. Cotto never recovered and when he got stung again, I knew he wasn't getting back up. If he had, I would have been super impressed even if he would have lost in the 2nd.

I was impressed but really more dissapointed in Abner Cotto. The first knockdown was more of lack of heart to me than a hurtful punch by Figueroa. The next punch was very solid to finish the fight. I think the fight was too quick to really judge Figueroa but I look forward to his next fight to see how he can handle a better fighter.

@Gabriel- I have been hit in the liver, I use to box, it paralyzes you. But that was the second shot, I'm talking about the first knockdown. The first knockdown was from a grazing hook to the head and a straight if I recall correctly. I don't remember a body shot, I might be wrong though. I only remember a body shot when he was knocked out, which as you said, is understandable when you are hit in the liver.

Exciting style but if he was fighting a better boxer tonight he would have been exposed with that bad defense. He throws wide punches and I think if he fought someone with a good jab and straight right that he could have been outboxed or even possibly stopped. Cotto's nephew didn't look so good at handling the pressure.

I didn't see the fight, but I've always liked Figueora, ever since I saw him fight Michael Perez awhile back. SICK bodypuncher, dude is the definition of Mexican.

I know he was fighting Abner Cotto tonight. He stop him or what?

Short answer: no, why would I be?

Exciting style....
