bq:was patterson too small for the heavyweights if yes what weight class would he be his best at?

Patterson was a small heavyweight, and fast.

He would have done better at cruiser, but compared to Jones or any heavy hitter, Patterson did not do well.

I imagine Jones beating Patterson, who would not have a speed advantage and could be stopped when hit.

Floyd would have gave Holyfield a run for his money at cruiser weight, but Evander would have eventually got to Patterson. Roy Jones Jr. at his peak was a middleweight, but his freakish speed and quickness enabled him to move up through the weight classes. You can't beat what you can't hit and at his peak it was all but impossible to land cleanly on Roy, so it's hard to pick anyone in history to beat Jones. If Floyd landed, it's lights out for Roy, but no way Patterson can decision Jones, Floyd would have needed a KO to beat Roy.

As much I admired Roy Jones jr, I believe that Floyd Patterson would have beaten him. Floyd was 6"0, and fought usually at 190 pounds. Very true he had a jaw made of glass, but his competition out shines Roy's any day of the week and then some. You cannot tell me that Virgil Hill, Clinton Woods, and John Ruiz, compare with Oscar Bonavena, George Chuvalo, and Ingemar Johannsen. Competition, believe it or not is a big deal and I completely understand how the young like to cling to their contemporaries like Roy and Iron Mike Tyson, it is called the generation gap. Roy who dominated the middleweight and light heavyweight division, then won the WBA Heavyweight Title, by beating Ruiz, on points, is very talented. I see a very technical fight between these two boxers, Roy out finessing Floyd, for ten rounds, until he cracks home a huge right hand, Patterson who absorbed Muhammad Ali's bombs in their two fights, as well as Roy Harris's smiles, then goes after Jones jr and hurts Roy with a devastating left hook in round 10. When the bell sounds for round 11, Roy tries to flurry and trade with Floyd, who again crashes home a left hook that send Roy to the canvas for the full ten count. Floyd would later remark that for awhile Roy reminded him of Cassius Clay in their 1st fight on Nov 22,1965, with his incredible foot and hand speed.. Floyd never referred to Ali as Muhammad Ali, only Cassius Clay.

patterson has the better style i think and fought better fighters in his career most of his best wins were after he lost the title to liston true patterson started out middleweight then not long after moved up to light heavyweight and then spent most of his career at heavyweight winning the championship twice and was robbed by jimmy ellis in 1967 which would of made him the first three time champion roy jones fought john ruiz who was no question a bum so unless jones can put patterson down and keep him down i think patterson wins this one by tko late in the fight or maybe by points true patterson had a glass chin but he had great hand speed and movement however he lacked footspeed which jones had but jones wasnt muhummad ali it might be a battle but i pick patterson
