Why does my hand hurt after boxing? How long will the pain last?

Don't box for a few days if not weeks until the pain goes away.

Drink plenty of milk [for calcium] and research pointers on how to properly use your hand wrap.

This happened to me but stopped after i cured & properly wrapped. Also; learn to punch properly [that was one of my problems].

Don't punch with your wrist tilted upwards, punch with your wrist tilted a bit downward so that your fist is pointed like an arrow at the bag. Make sure you punch a bag, not something solid like a wall.

But remember; the first step is to heal. Take a break.

Make sure you wrap your hands correctly, punch with your front two big knuckles (not your whole hand and make sure your form is rite, ask around at your gym for punching advice. Take some time off though, a couple weeks at least, just work on speed, don't punch hard for a while. Good luck bro, you'll be alright if you take it easy.

Its Because The Main Objective of Boxing is using hands.

Gotta be one of two things, or maybe both.

Either you're not using the correct gloves, or you're taping your hands up improperly.

Remember, bag gloves are usually 16 oz. although some use 18 oz. gloves, I know I never did.

Tape's important man, if you suspect you may be doing it wrong ask your coach if you got it down or not.

That's really it kid, there's no other real reason I can think of why your hands would hurt if you're only working the bag.

First, don't do any more punching until you have consulted at least one experienced boxing physician.

Second, once it has healed so that you can begin punching again, make sure you have you hands properly wrapped before punching a bag, sparring, or competing in a match.

Answer: "uhhhh... Your hand hurts because you're smashing it into things, nimrod!"

Yes, I know, but I'm worried that the pain is different from what it should be.

Like, if I press my hand down, so the fingers are pointing downward at a 90 degree angle with my wrist, that's when it hurts. And only my right hand hurts, which is making me believe that I might not be wrapping my hand right, that I'm punching like an idiot and need to either refit my glove or seriously learn how to connect with a punching bag before I break my hand, or that I might already have sprained something.

I'm just not sure.

OR is this just normal as I get my hands used to the process, and eventually muscles'll grow or things will otherwise toughen up?

Should I rest my hand and not box with it for a while? Should I continue to abuse it?

Most importantly, of course, are there any signals that I can use to better diagnose the issue.

I don't want to leave it alone and screw up my hand.

Let me know. Thanks in advance!
