If I go to a boxing gym will they let me spar their best guy in my first week?

I want to box but I hear they don't let you spar for months I want to get straight in there.

Im not sure if they would put you in with their top guy or not, but If you want to spar and are over 18 you need to get your doctors permission, get a medical done or at least a confirmation from your doctor that you are healthy enough to spar and it shouldn't be a problem to spar right away. No gym will let you spar without a medical and different trainers require different things to determine if you can spar the most important thing is that you can defend yourself. If you are under 18 most trainers would want to make sure you are ready to spar.

I would always have new guys spar with my best fighter because he can also work with them and is able to box them without hurting them. Or if they had an ego that needed to be checked I would tell him to embarrass them. So many times you get guys show up who just want to fight, or want to smash someone, usually local tough guys so Id throw them in and tell my boy to not only dominate them but embarrass them, usually id put them in with a guy a couple weight classes under them to add insult to injury and I know that is not uncommon for trainers to do. If they can take the ego beat down, put their ego's aside and still come back and want to improve then I will accept them, if not they usually leave in shame and don't come back.

I had this fella once show up, big big man, must have been 6'2 or 6'3 he was known around the neighborhood for being somewhat of a thief and bully, Id say he was around the 220 mark and was only 19 years old so and this was back 30 years or more so he was a big fella in the day. He came into the gym one day bugging me to let him fight, I kept telling him he needed his medical, so for the next couple weeks he would show up and taunt some of the guys sparring, saying they were lucky he was not in there with them and so on. He especially concentrated on this little red headed fella I trained, good little welterweight brutal body puncher so one day he comes in with his medical and wants to fight so I tell him sure suit him and I send Danny in with him the red head. It wasn't more then 20 seconds in and Danny just starts unleashing on this fellas body, the big guy is swinging madly and wildly and Danny is right in his chest pounding away at his body throwing upstairs occasionally and doesn't the fellas start running around the ring trying to stay away from this 150 lbs, 5'7 welterweight, with no place to go Danny traps him in a corner and just unleashes again and all of a sudden the fellas lets out the loudest fart Ive ever heard and drops to his knees, does not say a word and just crawls out of the ring and runs for the bathroom. When he comes back out Danny walks up to him and says "ready for round 2 big boy" and the fellas makes an excuse about an upset stomach and says he will come back tomorrow. Needles to say we never say him again.

Point is boxing is more then fighting its an art and a science, but sparring is one of the best ways to get into shape and learn the craft. I usually go by the baptism under fire method.

It really depends on your skill level so far. Your right they're not going to let you spar for a while.

First you have to train and develop your technique like with punches and stuff. Depending on how you progress and develop your sparing might go from 1 time per month to 2 times per month and so on to keep your skills up. It took my sister a little longer to get a bout because she had trouble making weight but now she's fit. So she gets a couple bouts a year. So depending on you and how you progress through training that you get sparring time and bouts. Just keep working hard in the gym!!!

If you were in any other sport would you compete or even play/race/lift against a world class competitor? The answer is the same in boxing, you must 1st crawl before you walk walk before you run-same goes for boxing and nearly every sport on this planet!

Why would you want to go straight in there and further install bad habits, because you cannot fundamentally be doing it correctly unless you have been trained by a knowledgeable boxing trainer on the basics of what is one of the worlds oldest sports

My gym put me to spar the first week. And it matters on your skill level impress and let em know you wanna fight there beat guy they just might.
