Was Joe Louis Really The Greatest Boxer Ever?

Possibly Joe Louis was the greatest heavyweight ever but the greatest boxer pound for pound of all time is almost universally recognized as 'Sugar' Ray Robinson born Walker Smith he had it all from one punch K.O. power in either hand to a great chin Ali many times admitted Robinson was the greatest boxer 'pound for pound' of all time and when he was calling himself the greatest of all time he was only referring to heavyweight.

Joe Louis was probably a top 10 fighter. People always talk about his amazing KO power and his record. The problem is that back then the gloves did not offer as much protection as they did 10 years later. This is why Louis could KO bigger men so easily. Muhammad Ali said he would beat Joe Louis so idk what you are talking about there. Bert Sugar said Ali would have beated Louis too. I doubt Joe Frazier would ever admit that anyone can beat him. George Foreman hit harder than Joe Louis did and was also a lot heavier. He would KO Louis is 3 rounds. I really doubt that Louis is the best boxer ever or even the best heavyweight because the majority of this opponent were ****. Boxers like Ali beat true greats like Patterson, Frazier and Foreman.

I'd probably consider him as the "greatest heavyweight" because of his achievements in that division: 11 years as champion with 25 successful title defenses. I mean, today, a champion would be lucky enough to hold on to his belt for 2 years. He was rather small by today's heavyweight standards, but he made up for it with a high skill level, hand and foot speed and of course, that brutal punching power.

Greatest Boxer Ever? Only one man fits that title: Muhammad Ali.

It's funny how everyone thinks Tyson was so good and thought to be able to beat the greats. Tyson had trouble with Quick Tillis. Tony Tucker. Mitch Green, Bonecrusher Smith, guys like that and that was prime time .Louis would have beaten him easy in most boxing historians minds.

One of the greatest for certain, and quite possibly the greatest puncher of all time. There are a couple boxers on par with Joe, but not many.

Top 10 in my book, but he falls behind Robinson, Armstrong, Greb, Charles, Pep, Ali, Langford, B. Leonard, and Gans in my opinion.

greatest boxer ever "sugar Ray Robinson", Even Ali said so

I'm not sure but I. Think mike tyson is way better then joe louis

Joe Louis reigned as heavyweight champion for 12 years!(From 1937-1949 a record) And made 25 title defenses 21by KO! And 5 In the first round(Another record). During his career Joe KO'ed Five world champions(Jack Sharkey, Max Schmelling, Max Baer, Primo Carnera &Jim Braddock). Louis had a thing called ''BUM OF THE MONTH CLUB'' where he fought EVERYONE and ducked NOONE he gave everybody a shot at his title. He KO'ed 230lb Tony Galento!, 6'4 260lb Abe Simon!, 6'7 250lb Buddy Baer !&6'6 260lb Primo Carnera! When Louis first retired his record was 58-1-1(49ko's). Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman & Rocky Marciano said they couldn't have beaten a prime Louis. The IBRO rated Joe Louis the #1 heavyweight boxer of all time and was rated the best puncher In the Ring Magazine. It Is said that noone could finish of an opponent better than The Brown Bomber, and that he fought better when he was hurt. Every single person that fought toe to toe with the champ was either knocked down or knocked out and he ALWAYS did better In rematches. I have Ali and Louis as the GOAT's of boxing
