Who are the two biggest punchers ever to fight each other?

Posted at: 2015-04-20
i just watched julien jackson vs gerrald mcclellan ,two of the biggest punchers i've ever seen and i couldn't really think of when two bigger punchers have squared off.

Foreman vs. Cooney comes to mind (if you're talking about punching power).

When they fought, Foreman had 60 KO, Cooney 24 KO's of 28 fights - Foreman won by KO.

Foreman called Cooney the hardest puncher he'd ever faced - he'd been in the ring with Frazier and Lyles.

Heavyweight - Ron Lyle vs George Foreman

Light-heavyweight - Archie Moore vs Bob Satterfield << goddamn

Middleweight - Gerald McClellan vs Julian Jackson

Welterweight - Tommy Hearns vs Pipino Cuevas

Lightweight - Edwin Rosario vs Jose Luis Ramirez

Featherweight - Wilfredo Gomez vs Azumah Nelson

However pound-for-pound I'd say Marciano vs Louis for the two biggest hitters.

I agree with everybody so far.

Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns comes to mind for me, which was a war.

Thomas Hearns was 40-1 with 34 knockouts and Marvin Hagler was 60-2-2 with 50 knockouts when they fought each other.

Also Marvin Hagler vs John Mugabi.

I already mentioned Marvin Hagler, but John Mugabi was 25-0 with 25 KOs coming into their fight. Very underrated puncher. Mugabi ended his career with 42 wins and 39 KOs!

Great answers by everyone and thumbs up to all.

Hello mate, here's my top list of biggest punchers who decided to axe each other's head off. LOL. If you recall the Carlos Zarate vs Alfonso Zamora bout -they fought with a combined 73 knockouts and only one had to go away and hear the final bell. Alfonso then had 30 wins all by knockout.

Wilfredo Gomez vs Carlos Zarate

When they fought, their combined record was 73-0-1 (72 KO).

Gomez ended his career w/ 44 wins and 42 KO's. Zarate ended w/ 66 wins and 63 KO's.

Both were beast punchers, especially for such little guys.

To me it was Foreman vs Ron Lyle. Super power house vs super power house fight. Those 2 beated all the other powerhouses around at that time, if you were a power puncher style that is.

Wilfredo Gomez - Lupe Pintor on the Hearns vs. Benitez undercard, December 1982.

No question about it! Look at the film on YouTube; BRUTAL!!

I hated that fight! Seeing one of my favorite boxers ever getting starched by a guy I dislike. Gomez Vs zarate is a great answer, I remember watching that one too. I'll add benn vs McClellan to the mix.

1)Mcclellan vs Jackson (spot on)

2)Langford vs Ketchel

3)Forman vs Frazier(frazier wasn't effective in this fight but his infamous left hook was always there)

4)Liston vs Williams

5)Benn vs Mcclellan

This fight was years ago but still on Youtube Evander Holyfield vs Dwight Muhammad Qawi

The best fight I may have ever seen.

i just watched julien jackson vs gerrald mcclellan ,two of the biggest punchers i've ever seen and i couldn't really think of when two bigger punchers have squared off.

1) McClellan vs Benn

2) Holmes vs Norton (Final Round)

3) Hagler vs Hearns

4) Benn vs Eubank

5) Bruno vs Bonecrusher Smith (Not a classic, but these two boys had bombs in each fist)

6) Shavers vs Holmes

I will have to go with either Joe Frazier VS George Foreman or Mike Tyson VS Donovan Ruddock.

Great question. I can always name one but putting two together raises lots of questions in my mind. But the best round I recall is Muhammad Ali against Earnie Shavers (officially THE hardest hitter in history) the last round of their fight. Earnie hit Ali with his best shots but the GREATEST battered Earnie with his best shots thus proving the power of Ali and his strong chin.

marciano vs louis
