Why do people think more punches landed means you won?

Yes, Chavez won the fight on account of the cleaner and harder punches he landed against Vera that hurt Vera almost every round. His aggressiveness also put Vera constantly on the defensive.and prevented Vera from mounting a consistent, meaningful offensive despite Vera throwing and landing more punches. Unlike the amateurs, judges in pro boxing look out more for the quality than quantity of punches. That makes pro boxing different from its amateur counterpart.

Correction, Vera was robbed and Chavez Jr. got a gift decision.

There's more to it than simply who lands more or who landed harder punches. Chavez Jr. was back peddling the whole fight. Normally I would say that is boxing but he wasn't doing much of anything. Vera was controlling the pace of the fight. He got hit with a few hard punches, a FEW hard punches but that is to be expected since Chavez Jr. is much bigger than he is. He was back peddling the entire fight and only managed to land a few hard punches because Vera was caught up in his aggression. Still, at the end of the fight, it's Chavez that looks like he was in a fight. Vera took some hard shots and kept coming, stayed active, dictated the pace of the fight.

Vera outlanded Chavez not only in normal punches but also in powershots.

Vera was also pressing the action throughout the fight.

Vera also did this throughout the fight. He didn't do like Oscar de la Hoya against Tito Trinidad where Oscar gave away the last 4 rounds.

Vera pressed the action throughout the fight and outlanded the bigger cheating JCC Jr.

Chavez didn't make weight, he's a cheater who didn't press the action, he did NOT deserve the decision.

True, overall punches landed are not the sole determining factor. But you also have to keep in mind that a big part of boxing is "to hit, and not get hit". Jr has the gift of blocking punches with his face and not getting fazed by it. So because he has an iron chin, should punches be counted as less? The way Kellerman has said it, when scoring for each round, you need to ask which fighter would you prefer to be in that round. Yeah, Jr landed the harder shots, but Vera's punches weren't soft either.

The people that claim the most punches wins a fight do not understand boxing. If the most punches wins then we don't need judges, we just need computers to count punches.

That would make boxing more like Olympic boxing which is often bad in its decisions as to the winner.

Because a fight is usually won on points or by a knock out. It seems that if you landed more punches and the fight goes to a decision you would win on points.

Bryan vera landed 51 more punches than Julio Ceasar Chaves Jr. If you look at the fight, Chavez had the harder punches, he hurt Vera in every round. Vera never hurt chavez. People seem to think more punches landed means you won, these were small jabs that had no effect of JCC. In conclusion, Chavez won.
