Why was Mike Tyson so feared?

Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Danny Williams and Kevin McBride didn't seem to fear him, they all knocked MIke out, in fact Evander KOed Mike twice. Truthfully, no fighter, certainly no heavyweight ever had a support group like the young Mike Tyson, names like Cus D'Amato, Jimmy Jacobs, Bill Clayton, Teddy Atlas, Kevin Rooney and Ritchie Giacetti read like a wall at the boxing hall of fame, and any one of them could have easily fixed a half dozen fights. When you take into account that all of Mike's early KO's, that entire spectacular KO highlight reel that the media imprinted on the public's mind for the first half of Mike's career were fighters that Don King promoted, the reality starts to nag at the back of most intelligent people's minds.

If you factor in all the fighters Team Tyson avoided it becomes clearer, names like Riddick Bowe, Ike Ibeabuchi, Tommy Morrison, Ray Mercer, Michael Moorer, David Tua and even Big George Foreman, all dangerous power punchers who weren't owned by Don King, even the most dedicated Tyson fan will have to admit that while Mike was by far the best supported and managed heavyweight in the last hundred years, he was no where near the best fighter. In truth Tyson wasn't even close to a great heavyweight. He was a great puncher, but the reality is most of his early fights were staged for effect, fixed if you will. Much like Primo Carnera before him, Mike was mobbed up and probably didn't even know it, although when he KOed Bruce Seldon with a shot that missed by a foot, he probably should have realized it wasn't on the up and up.

Yeah, I will say it, Mike Tyson was a far bigger fraud that Floyd Mayweather was, and the majority of the general public were duped into believing Mike was a far better fighter than he really was. Boxing is an entertainment business first and a sport a distant second. Team Tyson definitely entertained us, but really...Michael Jordan didn't hit every shot he took, Wayne Gretzsky didn't score every time he shot the puck, Nolan Ryan didn't strike out every batter he faced, Tiger Woods didn't get a hole in one every time he swung a golf club, and in truth Mike didn't do what he did without considerable outside influence and a lot of help from the fighters he was KOing. It may come as a shock to a lot of Mike's fans, but boxing is not always fair or honest, in fact on occasion, it is as corrupt as a cesspool, and not all fights are real, some are staged for effect. I hate to shatter the illusion, but the truth is the truth.

In the early part of his career he was a force to be reckoned with. He was focused determined and vicious. He was a man on a mission of destruction. He used to come into the ring ready for action. He did not even wear a robe. Many were intimidated before the bell rang and before the fight even started. Michael Spinks is one example also Marvis Frazier. Tyson was a decent boxer and defensive fighter the first few years of his reign of terror. Buster Douglas I believe could not beat a motivated well prepared Tyson. Tyson was not mentally and physically prepared on that February night in Tokyo.

In his early days in boxing Iron Mike looks like a hungry salivating fkng beast. Watch Mike vs Botha.

He was one of the biggest punchers in the history of boxing and the most intimidating man to ever enter this particular field of combat. He was the youngest Undisputed Heavyweight champ ever and laid waste to the marque division of this sport by annihilating belt holders in 3-6 rounds without breaking a sweat.

Easy answer. He's black.

Because he's an animal in the ring. Vicious. Ruthless. And yes, he was a brutal puncher who could kill you with one shot.

He has that blend of speed, power, accuracy and durability to destroy the Heavyweight division of his era(before his loss to Buster Douglas)

Because he is black I too agree

He could bite your ear off.
