Cheerleading a sport?

Well ummm, lets see. Practice 3 hours per day for 5 days a week? Physical training? I think if anyone who had common sense would know that cheerleading is a sport. Just because its not judged the way you think it should be doesnt mean it isnt. It is actually judged by points. In gymnastics you get your score sheet, cheerleading the same. and when your lifting +100 pounds into the air it isnt as easy as you think. Cheerleading is a sport. So is gymnastics, dancing, and diving.

First off, cheerleading IS a sport. Well, competitve cheer anyways, not the sideline cheerleading you see at football games. Cheerleading is a sport because it meets the criteria for being a sport which includes, propelling a mass through space (stunting), contest or competition ( cheer competitions), governed by rules ( there are TONS of these), and that the purpose of competition is the comparison of the skills of the participants ( hints the score sheet that every team is scored by, not just an opinion by a judge). So there should be no question of whether it is or not.

Watch some of these and try to tell me it's not a sport:

Sideline cheerleading is not a sport. Allstar cheerleading is a sport. And gymnastics is most definitely a sport... Matter of fact it the hardest sport out there and requires the most talent and strength. Gymnastics is in the Olympics.. Sooo how is it not a sport? I'm a level 10 gymnast and I practice 21 hours a week... Anyone can learn how to throw a ball around, not anyone can learn how to do a backflip on a four inch beam thats about 4 feet of the ground.

Yes cheerleading is a sport...people just say its not because they say its easy but it actually is really hard soo it is a sport like last year in our school we could do cheer and like cross country bc they didt consider it as a sport but now they consider it as a sport soo next year we can only do one

If it isn't a sport, why is it considered as such in schools and why is it shown on ESPN? Cheerleading, dancing, and gymnastics are all sports, and the sport of cheerleading contains elements of all three of these things.

Cheerleading being a sport is debatable. I feel that All Star Cheerleading is a sport but sideline cheerleading is not. In other words, and cheerleading squad that competes should be a sport. But if they do not compete, they are not a sport. Understand?

If ESPN airs a competition/game for it, it's a sport.

I consider Dancing and cheerleading a sport.

i guess its a sport like diving which u get scored on but i think its more like dance so technically it is a sport but i don't really think it is.

Yes cheer leading requires physical exersise, danceing is also a sport

I was just arguing for an hour with an ex cheerleader who swears it is a sport. If cheerleading is a sport so is dancing. That doesnt mean cheerleaders are not athletic or that they dont work hard, but a sport is an event where you either win or lose by a point system and there are clear winners and losers. Yes, that means I think things like gymnastics or diving are not sports either, athletic activities? Sure, not saying that gymnasts are not athletic or talented. But if it requires a judge and the "winner" is up to opinion, it does not count as a sport IMO.
