Boxing: If Canelo loses to Floyd...?

Who is older, smaller and weaker...will we...

A) dismiss him as hype

B) excuse him because it is 43-0, #1 pound for pound, future Hall of Famer Floyd?

Canelo Alvarez is not some kid who bounces between weight divisions looking for easy belts. He has unified the WBC & WBA at 154lbs, he is also the Ring Magazine Champion in that division [Ring Magazine is more reliable than pick&choose belts].

If he looses to Floyd, it will be by decision, he wont receive a beating, he's young so i'm sure his career will still flourish.

People will criticize Floyd for choosing a lower catch-weight [after Floyd criticized Pacquiao for doing it].

Mayweather is also faster, has better defense and movement, and has one of the 3 highest boxing IQ's of anyone active in the sport, the other 2 being Hopkins and Ward.

This fight is not even money. It isn't a toss up. It is a dangerous fight for Floyd to be sure, but it isn't the clash of the titans. It is a master of the craft taking on a young, strong, but still green fighter. Canelo will learn a lot from this fight and may continue on to have a great career. If he loses and then self destructs and does not fight the many other serious opponents out there for him from 154 to 168, then I would dismiss him as hype.

A) He has already proven that he is more than just hype. He has steadily increased his level of competition until this point and he is now in the position to fight the best. I for one thought he was just a hype job and would get found out once he started fighting good opponents but he has done well and proven me wrong.

B) I don't think anyone expects him to beat Floyd do they? I don't think he stands much of a chance and I'm expecting a pretty comfortable victory for Floyd. If this is the case and Floyd wins, it wont have much of an effect on Canelo's career. He will be straight back into big fights and will continue to be a big draw.

I cannot understand how anyone can possibly question Floyd's ability if he beats Alvarez, the odds are stacked against Floyd this time around. The age factor alone is almost an insurmountable obstacle, Alvarez is 22 Mayweather 36, given that Alvarez is the naturally bigger man, the catch weight is meaningless, at 22 Canelo can re-hydrate in a few hours with no ill effects. Floyd's critics will be forced to acknowledge Mayweather is without a doubt the best of his era if he beats Alvarez, It is they (Floyd's critics), not Floyd, who will run out of excuses, they will run out of excuses for hating on Mayweather. If Canelo Alvarez cannot beat Floyd, nobody below 160 lbs. can.

Just taking the fight at all should have silenced Floyd's critics, but they still hate on in the face of potential greatness. I do not use the term "greatness" lightly, but Floyd is flirting with that lofty title, if his last 5 fights are victories and he retires with a 49-0 record, I cannot see how else history could describe Floyd Mayweather. If it happens to pan out in Floyd's favor, those who try to say anything less about Floyd's historical status are blinded by bigotry and bias.

B) but he is 44-0. Alvarez is 22, 23 on fight night, and is getting the fight everyone between 140lbs-154lbs wants. He is fighting the best Pound for Pound fighter of this generation. He will be making millions.

If anyone dismisses him as hype, like Mayweather says: 44 have tried and 44 have failed. It doesn't mean his opponent is hype. It means he lost to the Pound for Pound King like everyone who has fought him.

@Kalambre

He has to shed 20 lbs regardless. The fight hasn't even happened yet and yo uare already making the excuse that he will be weight drained. I would love to know what you are going to point out to indicate he was weight drained when he loses because he has stamina problems. That has nothing to do with Mayweather. He will be slower regardless of the weight. I guess every one Mayweather has fought was weight drained because if he wins he will make Alvarez look the same as all of them. Stop being a hater.

If Alvarez lose, he still come out on top depending how he lose. Meaning, being exposed which I think he is already. It will be a young guy getting school and will help him grow. For all these weight issue trolls. People quickly forget Alvarez has been fight guys from 135-147. Please, with the excuses.

According to Mayweather, he should still be considered undefeated because he made him come down at a catchweight the same way Manny did with Cotto.

Anyway, I doubt people will judge him too harshly if he loses, not only because of the catchweight issue, but also because he's only 22 and is challenging the p4p best. If he gives a respectable performance, his stock may even rise.

depends on how he lose....

if the catchweight will take its tall and was too obvious even flomos cant do anythin to cover it then

C) he will be excused simply because floyd drained him....

i just dont know how the fans will take it after they felt they've been robbed again by TMT

C. Because Canelo has to shed more than 20 lbs. in favor Floyd's favor.

Win or lose its his turn to shine. But I have a feeling he can pull this off.

Who is older, smaller and weaker...will we...

A) dismiss him as hype

B) excuse him because it is 43-0, #1 pound for pound, future Hall of Famer Floyd?
