Boxing: Is boxing stronger in Eastern Europe or England?

I will say Eastern Europe, simply because of the size of Eastern Europe compared to England.

Eastern Europe seem to have a monopoly on the heavyweight division and have done since the retirement of Lennox Lewis. They have recently produced champions in lower divisions too such as light heavyweight and middleweight. Pound for pound I would say England though because for a tiny little island nation I think we produce more than our fair share of top class boxers.

If you meant popularity, currently I would say Eastern Europe too. The Klitschko's are superstars in Eastern Europe and sell out huge football stadiums, since the retirement of Ricky Hatton we have nobody who does that in England.

Although I'm from England, I'd have to say eastern Europe is stronger at the moment. They have more champions and some good prospects coming through. Hopefully England can turn some prospects into champions and catch up in the next couple of years.

Modern boxing virtually originated in England and through the years, England has produced many of the best boxers and champions. But when countries like the USA, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico,Argentina, Japan and the Philippines took to the sport and turned out outstanding boxers and champions after the war, England has receded to the background. But England continues to produce fine fighters and titlists in the 80s to the present including Ken Buchanan, JIm Watt, John Stracey, John Conteh, Prince Naseem, Amir Khan, Ricky Hatton,Lennox Lewis ( actually originally Canadian ), David Haye and Ricky Burns.

However, due to its sheer size and traditionally strong amateur boxing programs that produced outstanding simonpures and Olympians who later became pros, Eastern Europe is decided stronger in boxing now than England especially in the higher weights

I'm going to have to go with England because we are on a different level than the Eastern Europeans. We have a lot more greats.

Lets take a look:

Eastern Europe= KlitschkoBros,Huck,Golovkin,Bute,,

Shumenov,Povetkin,Adamek,Lebedev,Steigl...

Baysangurov,Zavek,Khabib,Shabikov,Prodo...

Bakhtin,Bute

England=(not including northern ireland,wales,scotland)

Kahn,Froch, Murray,Reese,Maklin,Quigg,Bellew,Brook,

Price,Degale,Chisora,Barker,Mitchell,Ha... Fury, Afolabi,

Eastern Europe champions=Golovkin,Huck,Klit bros,

Wlodarczyk,Lebidev,Shumenov,Baysangurov...

Golovkin

England champions=Froch

Despite our current number of champions we still have a lot of amazing contenders.David Haye for example could dominate the Cruiser weight division if he so desired. Kahn is a massive talent and will surely become champion in the near future. Brook,Fury Bellew,Afolabi and even Murray all have a good chance of winning a title very soon.

If you look at our 2 top guys Froch and Kahn and Eastern Europe's top 2 Wlad and Golovkin there isn't much difference in talent.never the less they beat us in shear number's(champions) which of course is to be expected for when a tiney island is up against such a vast amount of countries

Give it a couple of years and the table's may have turned.

i would say more fighters are coming from eastern europe.....but boxing is more popular in England/UK

most eastern euro fighters do not actually fight out of eastern europe, because their countries suck so much
