Boxing: True or false, Floyd lost 10 million on a Super Bowl bet?

Is it true? If so that was a jackass bet...

False,I know Floyd didn't make that bet, he even has had family in Seattle

It's false. However, the bogus story blindly picked up by a few reputable outlets fits perfectly into his fictitious narrative of being Mr. Money. The total handle for the Super Bowl in Nevada was $119-120M and a wager of $10M would be 8.4% of everything and that would've caused drastic changes in betting lines that simply weren't there.

Aside from that he's a fighter and as such doesn't have the revenue to take these types of hits financially despite what he wants people to believe. Because if he's laying down $10M for the Super Bowl that would tell me his total for the NFL season was at least that amount*. Now you're talking about $20-30M before you add college football and the NBA, does that really seem feasible Sean? Even if one believes his nonsense about $40M a fight lets do the math, that's $80M in 2013 and $48M after taxes. Even in this extremely simplified example where he actually makes $80M (which he doesn't), doesn't have the normal costs associated within his industry and doesn't account for life expenses he still would be wagering more than what he earned and that wouldn't be possible.

*Just like you wont see a guy that spends $10 on a 5 team parlay every week magically jump up and laydown $5K for the Super Bowl.

Very interesting question. The reason I don't believe the $10 million is because I've heard so many versions of the story before the game. I can tell you one thing though. Gamblers almost NEVER admit their losses to anyone who can't replace them.

.

I've been a manager in casino gaming for over 20 years and all gamblers have a few things in common. They will almost always exaggerate their winnings and losses.

.

Before the game, I read that Mayweather was placing a huge wager on the Denver Broncos. I heard and read different amounts ranging between $1.2M and $10M. However, I never believe everything the press writes about Mayweather because, for years, they painted him to be something lower than a child molester. Only recently has he gotten credit for the many positive things he's done in various communities.

.

I do know that Mayweather likes to bet on sports. Personally, it's something that I hope he will bring under control. I can tell you that it doesn't matter how much money a man has, gambling is an ILLNESS, just like Drugs or Alcohol.

.

I can't come close to counting the number of different stories and excuses I've heard, first hand, from gamblers. I swear they are almost identical. Only the faces and names change. Part of my job has been to interview and counsel problem gamblers and take part in determining if said people should be banned from casinos for a period of time or for life.

.

Gambling is a serious problem for some. As a fan --and I do know that Mayweather likes to gamble-- I hope the $10M is not even close to true. Mayweather is said to be worth anywhere between $170M and 200M, net. However, if gambling really does become a problem, you might as well turn those millions into coins worth about $10M each. Now how long do you think it would take to lose them? ......

.

This Really DOES happen. I have literally lost count of how many people I've witnessed, personally, lose in excess of $1 million. People say that Mike Tyson was wrong for firing Kevin Rooney. However, I have always maintained that that was one of the few wise decisions Tyson ever made. Rooney was an uncontrollable drunk who had a HUGE gambling problem. Where is he now?

.

I think Floyd Mayweather is smarter than most. I also think he knows how to control his finances. However, I've seen stranger things happen. Because of my experiences, part of me will always have a measure of concern for Mayweather's gambling.

It's definitely false.

I bet on sports almost every day, and listen to a lot of betting podcasts that have Vegas oddsmakers and people of that nature on them. Most all of them were asked about Floyd's alleged bet.

If Floyd made a bet of such a significant amount like that, it would've moved the lines for the game and people would've known about it. All of the people that worked with the sportsbooks in LV said it was rumor and not true..

If the Broncos did to the Seahawks what was done to them, the betting slip would have been up on twitter before the first quarter was over lol

Of course he wouldn't admit to it even if he did make the bet..............He's bet on all kinds of sports events in the past, why would he not bet on the biggest game going.

I wouldn't be suprised. I thought the 49ers would win it all but after the performance Seattle had against the 49ers ,i knew they were going to win it all ,maybe i should go to Vegas

If you got money and have fame, ppl will know you and know you got money. PPL will try to hustle you for it. Somebody probably told him that Broncos got Manning and they gonna win vs an young Seahawks, gauranteed no doubt no brainer. Ka-ching!

TRue, he wouldnt admit that he lost 10mil...His ego wouldnt admit, would you? so that the people would think your a fool...I have a friend before sean g, he lost 25million dollars in 2 days in las vegas...He got broke, until now he doesnt want to admit to his family...I was there, and he lost 25million dollars...LOL...

True. Floyd would throw away dollars to gamble instead of giving to homeless and sick brothers and sisters in the hood.

Is it true? If so that was a jackass bet...

No one's one knows. I mean he was wearing broncos stuff and then it's weird he was so quick to deny he bet on them.

false.. maybe it's a fake money
