Boxing: What does the Alvarez long term HBO deal mean?

Let me give you a breakdown:

A) No Maweather rematch?

That is probably correct. HBO hates Mayweather with a passion for moving to Showtime and Canelo is sick of being 2nd rate to Floyd. Unless the networks agree to co-promote, there is no chance of a rematch. Also Canelo will not fight at a catchweight at 154 (he agreed to 152 against Mayweather in 2013), so another obstacle.

B) Does it make fights vs Chavez Jr, Cotto, Golovkin, or Pacquiao easier?

-> vs Chavez Jr: Unlikely in the short term as Chavez Jr cannot make 160, but maybe in 2 years if Chavez stays at 168

-> vs Cotto: That's the plan for May 2014, Canelo wants the Cinco de Mayo date for a Cotto super-fight

-> vs Golovkin: Canelo stated if Cotto doesn't fight GGG, he will so it is likely as a possibility

-> vs Pacquiao: Highly unlikely as Canelo will fight at 154 straight, without a catchweight and hence no fight

C) Will he be HBO' PPV king over Pacquiao?

HBO are grooming him as a long-term investment. Once Manny has been expended, Canelo will be the next PPV star that they will build up. By 2015 end, assuming he is undefeated, he will be the face of HBO Boxing. That's why he moved from Showtime.

D) Does this set up a PPV war in May with HBO's Canelo card vs Showtime' s Mayweather card?

Canelo has expressed that he is taking the 2 Mexican dates from Floyd, so this may start a war. We will see what happens, but to me it looks like Floyd will probably shift his dates to something else due to his recently declining PPV figures. Canelo is the rising tide and Floyd is grooming his exit from the sport.

A) Mayweather doesn't give rematches only to those who make it competitive and close

B) yes

C) He'll be the PPV king because after May retires who else is gonna be ppv? Broner? No

D) yep

It's good for boxing.

Show time is black and haymon bias. It's a crap network. HBO is a real network

When canelo was fighting on Showtime he was blatantly disrespected in the Lara, trout and Mayweather fights by the commentators. They wanted the overrated black fighters to win so bad it wasn't even funny.

Glad a real fighter is now going to a real network.

A, B & C if Pac retires.

D Impossible. Mayweather would never fight Canelo unless it's a catchweight again.

a) no

b) yes

c) no, specially if floyd retires w/o fighting pwc

d) even a pacfight was never use by arum agsinst floyds ppv power, arum is a pure businessman....but if oscar is crazy enuf, yes, it can affect floyds ppv result
