Cotto has the guts to move up to the middle weight. Why can't mayweather do the same thing?

I want to watch floyd fights GGG.

because cotto literally has enough guts in his body to move up in weight

mayweather walks at 140

I might actually understand your point if I didn't know anything about the fighters you mention. Then it would just be a simple matter of numbers. Both were welterweights. One just won the middleweight title. Why doesn't the other follow suit?

.

Personally, I'm in no hurry to see Floyd Mayweather the middleweight. For me, it would be like seeing a light-heavyweight or cruiserweight Sugar Ray Leonard. The fact that you ask this question tells me that you might not understand my analogy. However, without going into detail, I'll just tell you not to be fooled by history telling you that Leonard "Won" the light-heavyweight title. He didn't. You'll just have to take my word for that and do a little research.

.

My point is that I'd rather see Mayweather at his best and I just don't think a trip to 160 would be conducive. Consider that Mayweather started his career, and won his first world title, at 130. For normal people that might not seem like a lot. For professional boxers, it might as well be 100 lbs.

.

Miguel Cotto has always been naturally bigger than Floyd Mayweather. It was only inevitable that Cotto would grow into the middleweight division. He walks around at that weight or a bit higher. Mayweather rarely ever reaches 150 between fights.

.

Now, consider that Mayweather is no longer "natural" at 130. However, a fighter's Natural weight is where he levels off. Mayweather has been a welterweight eight years. However, he only rose to 147 for more attractive fights, not because he couldn't make 140.

.

I realize it's popular to bash and hate Mayweather but, as boxing fans, lets be realistic. A jump to 160 just wouldn't be a wise move, or even a competitive one, for Mayweather. It would prove little. Even if Floyd were a younger man, it still would not make much sense because you're not getting him at his best.

And if he goes to middleweight you will say ''GGG has the guts to go to supermiddleweight why not Mayweather?''

The reality is that Mayweather won his first title at superfeatherweight while Cotto won his first title 2 divisions above at lightwelterweight.

Mayweather is longer but he is naturally the lighter man. Mayweather can't even get a legit ko against a natural 147lbs because he is naturally smaller.

Cotto walks around at about 160 pounds. Mayweather walks around at/comes into the ring at 148-150 pounds. How on earth is he supposed to fight guys that come in weighing 170+? Guys like GGG should be fighting guys their own size instead of trying to pick on little guys that they're 20% larger than.

Can you imagine Mayweather calling out guys two full weight classes below him? He'd be ridiculed til the end of time for it! But when significantly larger fighters call HIM out, it's toooootally ok lol.

Some guys here equate height with size which is fallacious.Welters Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns were taller than middleweight Marvin Hagler but definitely not bigger in term of physique and body mass as Mayweather and most other welterweights and even super welters are compared to Cotto. Cotto is definitely bigger than Floyd having started at junior welterweight even outgrowing the welterweights in just a matter of few years. His jump to the middleweights is therefore not difficult although like Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams before him he is a small middleweight. .

Timing is everything in boxing and Cotto moving up and challenging for the middleweight championship is a classic example. Cotto moved up at the time when Sergio Martinez was at his weakest as Leonard made his at a time when he was physically ready ( his semi-retirement ironically did wonders for his battered body and allowed it to grow some more ) and Hagler was already at his vulnerable having aged and slowed down.

In the era of the original eight weight classes, lightweights really have no way to go but up the welters and welters to the middleweights but with the institution of the junior divisions they have since more options. Hence most lightweights passed through the junior welter and welters through the junior middleweights. Both Cotto and Mayweather have taken the option of moving up to 154 lbs. where they won major world titles.

But Cotto proved more ready to move up to the next level with good timing at his side.

Who knows, Floyd may only be waiting for his body to naturally grow some more which I think is doubtful given his age and the fact that he hardly hit 154. Or he may be waiting for the proper timing to make his move.

The explanation is easy as that.

Floyd started at Super Featherweight. Cotto started at Jr Welterweight. Cotto is naturally bigger. Golovkin has been a Middleweight and if 160 is so scared of him, why should he not go up to 168 and fight Froch or Ward? All Golovkin does is fight blown up Jr Middleweight...get out of here with that.

Floyd's not as big as cotto

Smaller? I don't believe that **** lol. At 5'8 he is bigger in size in comparison to cotto or alvarez who stands at 5'7. You gotta be blind to think he's smaller than them. & btw didn't he beat cotto b4?
