Whether it is still as corrupt as it was in the 40's and 50's when the mafia controlled the game, is unclear, but there are more organizations and more fights, so it is harder for a few people to control the sport as they did then.
An individual sport like boxing is always open to corruption. I don't think fighters take dives anymore at the top level, but top class boxers certainly still dodge fights in order to make money from easier fights. It's always happened, and still happens.
I don't think it's necessarily the boxers themselves, but rather the management who want to make money by sidestepping an opponent who could beat their man, and thus halt their ride on the gravy train.

Since the Mafia days boxing has never gotten away with corruption though there are still a number of honest fights. But fixed games are almost the norms in boxing.
