Do you think Mayweather could retire 49-0 like Marciano?

he will .. as long he never fight fighters like Pacman

Assuming that Floyd makes 49-0, his ego wouldn't allow him to just 'match' the late Rocky Marciano's record.

Floyd would be compelled to make it the big five o.

But I also think people are getting too sucked up in Mayweathers invinceability.... He is no spring chicken, and he is still fighting credible fighters (despite what people say...)

The likes of Cotto, Marquez, Hatton, Ortiz, Alvarez, Mosely are not picked from the cherry basket - Each opponent brings different dangers to the ring... They weren't given a shot... They earned it!

Let's not forget... Mayweather has another four fights to win before he even makes 49-0

This is boxing my friends - Nothing is certain!

I think he can surpass the record if he continues to leave titles vacant to not fight his mandatory [which Marciano never did].

He may even retire with a record like Ricardo Lopez [51-0].

Still; Mayweather has bad spending habits [especially with gambling], his company isn't very successful outside his groupies and he doesn't have sponsors due to his past.

I think Floyd will retire and come out of retirement when he's broke and he will fight after his haydays. He won't reach Chavez record of 90-0.

He might, but who would care if he did? Ali fought the best, endured some losses and is remembered as top 5 best ever, and one of the most loved people in sports history. Who still talks about Marciano now except hardcore fans?

"ali fought the best, endured some losses and is remembered as top 5 best ever, 49-0, Who still talks about Marciano now except hardcore fans?"

rich; you're the man!

"...like Marciano?"

No, not like Marciano.

Ducking Pac has made the record a formality, even if it is 100-0.

Floyd could retire 49-0 easily enough, but he would never be like Marciano.

I think he can retire undefeated like Marciano. He is 45-0 now. Next year, he will fight two more times, probably against any two among Amir Khan, Shawn Porter, Marcos Maidana and Erislandy Lara. In 2015, he will fight two more fights to fulfill his six-fight contract with Showtime and that could be against any two among Manny Pacquiao (assuming he no longer renews with Bob Arum ), Timothy Bradley ( assuming Bob Arum agrees to make him available especially if he beats Pacquiao in their rematch ), Danny Garcia or Demetrius Andrade.

@ Intrepid---Kindly run over Marciano's record and pray tell me who among his first 30-35 opponents you know even little of by way of their calibre and the calibre of their opposition as for you to say that all of Rocky's opponents were tough.I can count with my ten fingers the real tough, prominent fighters Marciano faced in posting that 49-0 record. And most of them were either raw or already aging/fading or old and faded. Floyd's record is more impressive in comparison.

If he maintains his chicken sh*t attitude and fights dudes out of their prime or dudes who got a lucky break then yeah he could...doesn't matter though if he went 79-0...he'll never go down as an ATG with dudes who know their sh*t about boxing...Manny on the other hand...

yep, but ovbiously not w/o asterisk...

what good is 49-0 when he made it known its a cherrypicked zero?

when marcianos zero is from tough competition?

Who cares
