Does Paulie Malignaggi have a chance against Broner..?

I brought this up a while back and got ridiculed like you! Of course Pauli has a chance, as you said he has been in with the best and has beat some of the best. Its such a shame Malignaggi doesnt have much power because that could be the real difference in this fight, but will broners power be affective at 147? Either way Malignaggi is oozeing condfidence going into this, broner is jumping up 2 weight classes, the fight is in Pauli's home town Brooklyn New York.. I think he has a great chance but he needs to pull out a real vintage display far better than his most recent performance. Power could be the difference in this fight but dont rule Malignaggi out by any means.

The only reason this fight is interesting is because of unknown factors.

1. How will Broner handle the up in competition?

While Malignaggi clearly isn't a hall of fame fighter, he is servicable, knows his way around a ring, and has fought other good fighters. He is also the best opponent Broner has fought to date.

2. How will Broner react to the change in weight?

This will be Broners first fight after jumping 2 divisions to 147. Nobody will know how his body will react on fight night.

3. How will Broner prepare and execute against a slick boxer who will not stand in front of him and exchange?

Broner has fought a much of chin down fighters. Meaning, they just come in throwing blows with their chin tucked. No real finesse, or boxers. Paulie is the first fighter that Broner is stepping in with that can hit and move very well and use angles.

These factors are all unknowns. The questions about this fight really aren't because of Paulie's skills, it's because of these UNKNOWN factors. Who knows how Broner will react. My guess is he will TKO Paulie by the 10th round at the latest. But, he may get outboxed by Malignaggi come fight night. You just don't know with all these unknown factors at play.

So I guess the answer would be, yes, paulie has a chance by default...

The thing about this fight ,Pauli Malignaggi is at an advantage having fought at welterweight for 3 years while Adrien Broner is moving up 2 weight divisions all the way up from lightweight ,that's like a 17 pound weight advantage for Malignaggi.

To top of that off ,Malignaggi is a slick boxer that will stick and move and will not just stand in front of Broner like Gavin Rees and Antonio De Marco did ,so if Adrien Broner can pull this off ,you and everyone else should take your hats off to Adrien Broner and give him his due credit.

I give Paulie basically no chance. It's not b/c of Broner either (at least not all b/c of him), but it's b/c I do not think Malignaggi is that good at all.

Dude has no power, has lost to every real good fighter he's faced (save Juan Diaz), he gets hit w/ everything even though he's considered a "boxer", and he just got dropped and was lucky to get a decision against a young/slow/plodding fighter in Pablo Cesar Cano.

I had Cano winning their fight, and that dude just lost to a completely shot Shane Mosley.

I don't think Malignaggi does anything better than Broner, and most people would at least have a punchers chance, yet Paulie doesn't even have that.

A lot of good responses. U can tell these are all very knowledgeable boxing observers commentating. They all also agree tht paulie has no chance, so y argue w the obvious tht virtually everyone agrees abt. Broner hand picked this fight, and skipped the dangerous 140 division. If he plans to stay at 147 then I hope he gets to fight a Devon Alexander or timothy Bradley so he can get his *** whooped. I hope he doesn't call out someone like Amir khan next, which I can definitely c him doing

This will be a very interesting fight. Paulie got his revenge on a tough Cotto but got out boxed by Kahn and that worries me. Broner is only one inch shorter and at 5' 7" should handle 147 with no problem. BUT, can he carry his power up to 147? Broner reminds me a lot of Shane Mosley. A terrific lightweight but an even better welter. I gotta go with Broner in this bout. No KO, but should be strong enough to breeze to an easy win.

Who knows. He is decent and Broner looks very talented but he hasn't fought anyone yet. Malignaggi has.

No, Malignaggi has no real chance against Broner.

paulie has zero chance of winning, broner should be ashamed of himself for skipping the 140 division and taking this garbage fight.

Broner accepted the fight so...Nope. Maggie will lose.

I like Paulie Malignaggi - I find him sharp, funny, and the best trash talker of the current era...

Apart from dismal punching power, Paulie is very ring intelligent, he reads an opponent well.

At first, I thought the Broner fight was the worst fight he ever took... I even feared for him...

Then after watching several altercations with Broner, I feel that the magic man might have a slight psychological edge... Broner is no match for Malignaggi in the trash talking business..

Malignaggi has an impressive resume, he has been in with the best.. Broner hasn't.

My interest is increasing by the day in this fight... anybody else see an upset??

maybe but I don't think he will win
