If Manny Pacquiao & Floyd Mayweather retired by years end, who will be remembered as the greater of the 2?

Floyd Mayweather would be remembered as the greater of the two. For the first few years, the records of both fighters would be the focus. Floyd never lost and the KO loss Pacquiao suffered at the hands of JM Marquez would still be fresh in the memories.

.

After the dust settles, the fighters would be ranked closer. It's a bit like Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns. In the 90s, people ranked Leonard well above Hearns because Ray won their first fight, in 1981. After the rematch, which many felt Hearns won, people still ranked Leonard higher but they were much closer.

.

After about five years --again, assuming that both fighters retire by year's end-- people will still rank Mayweather higher. He's undefeated and that would go a long way with boxing experts and the most knowledge fans.

.

The biggest difference would be the manner in which Pacquiao lost to Marquez. Besides that, the accomplishments of both fighters could be debated 50/50. Each man is considered the other's toughest potential challenge. However, the shortcomings --in the ring-- of each fighter, would give Mayweather the edge. He was never defeated in a ring and Pacquiao lost by KO in a recent fight....

.

Note: those early KO losses, suffered by Pacquiao, should be all but dismissed. he was just an unknown boy, thrown in against grown men..

.

Still, Mayweather would be viewed as the greater of the two.

Pacquiao has always been cited for his eight division titles but truth to tell, Pacquiao is really a welterweight waiting to happen in an originally flyweight frame. It's ordinary for Pinoys his age to weigh in the 105-112 lbs. in their teens not due to genetics but due to lack of proper nutrition. hence, at 5-6 he was taller than most if not all of his counterparts and with his bigger bone structure, he was stronger. When Manny reached his early 20s, he immediately outgrew the flyweights and this was helped even by better diet and nutrition for he was already earning substantially at this point. He outgrew the flyweights and went straight to the junior featherweights where he was also taller and stronger than most fighters. His body tapered off at 126 and 130 lbs. in his mid to late 20s which was again ordinary for Pinoys his age. But as he aged, his body continued to grow and soon he had even outgrew the lightweights and the super lightweights and now he has settled down at 147 lbs. That would partly help explain his accomplishments in winning titles from flyweights to the welterweights which is still phenomenal anyway you look at it.

Has Pacquiao ever won a Olympic medal? Has Pacquiao ever beat a undefeated champion? Has Pacquiao ever been knocked-out? How many of Pacquiao's greatest victories been against boxers who are coming off of a very recent loss? What is Pacquiao's record after being accused of PED use? Does Pacquiao have defense, or is he a one dimensional fighter?

The biggest highlight of Pacquiao's career will be of the face plant he suffered against Marquez.

Mayweather is currently considered the greatest boxer of his generation.

cowards should not be remembered they are burned or thrown to hell
