I agree that Mikey needs to step up his competition before he can be regarded as elite, but I don't know why Gamboa is considered the measuring stick when Gamboa himself has faced a similar level of opposition, and in some cases looked less impressive doing so like in his fight with Salido.
As far as Mikey being chinny, he looked more embarrassed from that flash knockdown than anything else. I'd be more concerned if he was rocked from a hard punch.

Right now hes fighting the type of fighters that made Donaire and Broner look invincible when they were fighting those one-dimensional easy to hit targets. Gamboa can be the one to spoil the hype of Mikey but if he beats Gamboa then and only then I will be sold.
I was sold on Kovalev after he beat Campillo cause he wasnt a fighter who makes opponents look good but he looked spectacular in that fight. Also sold on Thurman when he beat Quintana for the same reason. Right now Mikey is facing the tough but one-dimensional fighters who make there opponents look great like Montiel, Arce, Darchinyan or Demarco, Perez did for Donaire and Broner

Gamboa has tools to frustrate anybody his handspeed is always impressive, but he doesn't always perform as well as he could. He didn't look all that great against Farenas and Perez, who were two no-name tomato cans that he SHOULD have blown out of the water, but he really didn't. It's a toss up. You never really know which Gamboa is gonna show up.
Whoever started this myth about Gamboa having a glass jaw? He was never stopped nor knocked down in the amateurs and he was tagged hard many times in the pros, last by the ponderous punching Michael Farenas who even knocked him down hard and he just shook the effects off.
