Floyd Mayweather vs. Sergio Martinez?

although this fight could be possible, knowing martinez is already damaged good and could be looking for his last payday, buying off his current contracts could be a possibility just to sign w/ showtime and tmt for this fight.... but floyd will think thrice before he fights... it wont be easy to be made, floyd doesnt wanna get hurt, martinez has blinding punches and high KO rating

This fight could be a good one, Sergio is listed as 5'10" with a 73" reach & Floyd is 5'8" with a 72" reach. Now the weight i'm not sure about that one cause Floyd has fought at I believe as high as 154 when he fought Cotto. Martinez obviously would be 160 plus but Martinez is not a true middleweight he actually lost to Margaritto earlier in his career at 147.

I think this could happen maybe Sergio would agree to a catchweight of 154 or something like that. I think Sergio has taken a few too many beatings & would lose this matchup. After Floyd beats Canelo, either going up for Sergio or going down for Danny Garcia seem to be the best fights out there since Manny hasn't woken up from the Marquez right hand yet!!!

Will never happen

1) Martinez I believe has a contract with HBO and Mayweather has one with Showtime

2) Martinez is a Middleweight and Mayweather can barely fight at Jr. Middleweight. Only way the fight would be made would be if Martinez went down to 154 lbs.

3) He does not need to take that risk to further cement his legacy when he is already going down as a legend in the sport.

A LOT OF variables for this super match. Sergio needs to be completely healed. I don't see Floyd really outclassing him. Sergio is 2 yrs. older but still got great reflexes, speed, movement, power, intangibles, footwork -- when HEALTHY. I would call it a tight draw or decision either way, possibly, at 154. At 150 -- as Floyd has said in the past, he would beat Sergio. Not a bad beat down, but Floyd would have some advantages such as being closer to his TRUE size.

I get your point about how a Middleweight title would bolster Floyd's legacy...even taking the fight would help his legacy. BUT that would be a dumb decision. When Floyd fights at Jr. Middleweight (154lbs), he has been 149 and 150. He can't be fit and be any bigger. A middleweight might enter the ring at 175... The difference is too big.

Floyds got the ability to be an all time great. Whether or not he has the heart is another story

What do you guys think about the possibility of this fight happening?

I personally think Floyd would be smart to take this fight. Sergio Martinez is a broken man right now, literally. He is coming off multiple surgeries in his right knee and a broken left hand. He is vulnerable right now. Most importantly though, Martinez is the current WBC Middleweight champion. If Floyd takes the fight and beats him, he'll become a

6-Division World Champion, which will help further cement his legacy as one of the all-time greats.

Thoughts?
