How was Floyd Mayweather jr able to beat JM Marquez so easily?

uhh...mayweather outclassed him, that's how. happens all the time in boxing. mayweather is just that much better than marquez. no wise explanation needed. mayweather beats him at any weight, any century.

Marquez had trouble with Mayweathers style because Mayweather is not agressive. Most fighters have trouble with mayweather's style not just Marquez. Mayweather also had a weight advantage.

Floyd Mayweather could probably beat pacquiao to.

There were a number of circumstantial reasons why Floyd Mayweather was able to beat Juan Manuel Marquez so easily at Welterweight in comparison to Manny Pacqauio.

The first and most obvious reason is the fact that Juan Ma Marquez hadn't hired Angel Heredia as his strength and conditioning coach. It might sound a little minor but you have to consider the fact that moving up in weight is actually harder than moving down because you have to add the right type of weight. Marquez didn't have a strength coach which as we can tell in his later bouts made a tremendous difference.

The second reason; Floyd Mayweather didn't actually make the original 144lbs limit, he weighed 146lbs, payed the extra money, and refused to step onto the unofficial scale which means nobody knows how much Floyd actually weighed coming into the bout.

The Third reason; The Style Match Up, Juan Ma Marquez has always preformed his best when matched with aggressive opponents (Juan Diaz and Manny Pacqauio) but when you force a Counter-Puncher to be the aggressor it takes him out of his comfort zone because he has to initiate.

Looking at all the extenuating circumstances; you have a fighter in Juan Ma Marquez who's moving up in weight without a strength coach, facing an opponent who's naturally larger, faster, and stronger, who hasn't made the weight, and to add insult to injury he tactically superior.

In hindsight it was a solid comeback fight and I think Floyd knew what he was doing, but It would be foolish to compare the Marquez of 2009 to the recent performances he's been putting on, although I still think Floyd beats Marquez even now.

Great Question.

People, and when I say "people" I mean Mayweather's detractors (who typically turn out to be pro Pacquiao people) look for virtually any excuse to discredit any Mayweather win, even if it's over a great fighter like Marquez.

You'll see folks write things like "Marquez was 2 divisions under Floyd". Well, Floyd was 2 divisions under De La Hoya and he came all the way up to fight him at 154 lbs. Then they'll write "Floyd was over the weight limit". True, he was 2 lbs heavier but look back at the fight; did Floyd use his size and strength to defeat Marquez? Not at all. He circled, jabbed, ducked, and countered.

Marquez lost to Floyd for one simple reason: The fight was boxer vs boxer and Floyd is better. And that's not a knock on Marquez, he's a great boxer...but Floyd is better. He has more discipline, he's very difficult to hit, he has speed, reflexes, and unequaled intelligence. After the fight Marquez himself stated that Floyd has no equal in the ring. When you have a matchup that is pure boxer vs pure boxer, the better boxer ALWAYS wins. Floyd is the better boxer.

There is the obvious answer to explore, and Ill throw it out there, just for consideration..and probably getting me labeled a "flomo" from here forward.

..maybe Floyd REALLY is that good.

Look, Ive grown up in boxing. My brothers are boxers, I boxed thru my youth. I grew up in the neighborhoods of Sugar Ray Leonard (neighbor) and William Joppy (classmate). Not just the glory of the ring, but the gore of the training. And I have to say I have never seen anyone like Floyd Mayweather, ever.

Ive seen guys with attributes of him...but not all of it in one person. Ive seen speed, Ive seen power, Ive seen focus and commitment, Ive seen guys that commit themselves to the art of countering and the old school method of training. Ive watched guys with fast feet, fast hands, hair trigger reflexes. Ive seen guys with killer workout ethics because they had no gifts (like Marciano), but Ive never seen anyone have all of it.

In opponent terms, Floyd Mayweather is a nightmare. How can you possibly train for every aspect of his game? Lets say you decide to focus on his defense and you get James Toney (who also uses the philly shell)...but James Toney isnt as fast and doesnt use his feet to make distance.

Lets say you decide to pressure Mayweather, how? Pressure connotates that the pressure will eventually fold him. Mayweather trains for 15 minute rounds while rotating fresh sparring partners in, so that he doesnt even lose his wind during a fight. Lets say the pressure works, he adjusts mid fight and then you arent working anymore while absorbing right hand leads and left hooks...as well as jabs to the stomach. What is the plan B? C? D?

Bruce Lee identified early on that the key to winning any confrontation is being enigmatic. So long as your opponent is thinking he cant act. If he doesnt understand why he cant hit you and why hes getting hit, he will eventually deter. It doesnt matter if the punches hurt you or not.

Mayweather has offrailed many careers and shot folks confidence into retirement. ODLH was shot when he walked in to face Manny Pac, Ricky Hatton never recovered. Literally and to the extreme sense, neither did Arturo Gatti.

Maybe it just is that much of a daunting task to fight him.

Long story short.. JM Marquez went up 3 weight divisions to fight mayweather and that was his first fight he ever fought in a high weight

May cherry picks someone who doesn't have a super left. Marq@ss was tough but too small with no super left. The style is stationary and flat footed with no lefts, a perfect combo style to cherry pick from.

Norman Bates nalied it.

BTW, the result of the fight would've change if Floyd fought him in 140 lbs that time.

ask yourself, buddy and analyze...

He did not fight at the weight the contract stated, one day you will see though the mist

Floyd is a much better fighter.

I watched this fight on youtube yesterday.

Marquez was one of the best fighters on the planet..he gave ATG fighters like Pacquiao and Barrera hell and even beat one of them...but he lost by an overwhelming margin to a returning Floyd Mayweather jr (120-107, 119-108, 118-109).

i personally had Floyd jr winning by 10-1-1.

How was Floyd Mayweather jr able to beat JM Marquez so easily?
