How was Pacquiao vs Skinny Hussien controversial?

No matter hown many times I watch the replay of the knock down from a jab, no matter how fast I count, he is always up before 9.

The ref CLEARLY gave Pacman extra time to recover.

Yes, he was up before the full count by the local ref also gave him extra time to get his senses back by not immediately calling for the resumption of the fight and serving all sort of warning to the opponent. I saw the fight and it's a shame because Hussein's manager, the respected Jeff Fenech was there and was angrily protesting the deliberate delay. Oh, come on Rich!

I cringed because it brought back memories of that blatant "saving operation" conducted in a 1982 WBC junior lightweight title fight between defending titlist Rolando Navarette and his Korean challenger Choi Chung Il which was seen by the Marcos Presidential Couple where Navarette went down groggily but the fight fans watching on TV did not get to see the count as a power brownout suddenly occurred during the broadcast When the fight went back on air, Navarette was already back in his corner and ready to go back to action for the next round. A ringside official later confessed to ringing the bell seconds before the actual three minutes alloted to save Navarette from further punishments and probable KO.

Oh, come on Rich!

@ Rich---you know better than playing naive on such cases.

@ Intrepid---The ref was not minding the still tizzy Pacquiao as he was Hussein who he kept on berating and giving all sorts of warning clearly to kill time..

aw come on, we all know gettin up before the full count aint enough for the ref to ensure safety, you got to make sure the fighter really responds to you after the knockdown.... its just that ref is also filipino, if bayless was the ref instead of padilla, I bet there wont be any suspicion... but then again, bayless' fee will b too expensive for a low budget fight like pac v. hussein

The referee gave Manny pacquiao extra time to recover. He was down for the count but the referee helped him to recover.
