Is Canelo currently the most over rated fighter in boxing?

Yes I totally agree. He beat Matthew Hatton, Josesito Lopez, old man Mosley, and Austin Trout (who's never beaten anyone except a shot Cotto) and suddenly he's top 10 p4p.

I would have said Broner but the hype has well and truly worn off now.

Canelo could have arguably had a much better resume but has had some bad luck making fights. He was supposed to fight Paul Williams but Paul Williams was injured in a car accident. Victor Ortiz could have been a match up for Canelo if he wasnt defeated by under dog Josesito Lopez, and Canelo could have had Cotto on his resume if Trout didnt pull off the upset. Still though Canelo is only 23 or 24 and is already a Mexican superstar and is working his way to the top of the boxing game. He plans on fighting 3 times in 2014, lots of potential match ups for Canelo such as Cotto, Lara, rematch with Trout, maybe even a potential matchup with Sergio Martinez. Canelo is going to dominate the middle weight divison.

Trout is a solid win for Canelo, considering he was a title holder and coming off a win over Cotto. It was also a high risk/low reward fight for him at the time. And as anon pointed out, GB made offers to Williams, Ortiz, Kirkland, and Cotto, but those fights didn't materialize through no fault of his own. Kirkland actually accepted a career high payday to face him, but then pulled out the following day, claiming he wanted retirement pay.

Okay he was trying to step up in 2012, yet paul williams had an accident, kirkland backed out and Ortiz got upset. Wtf was he supposed to do? Kirland please the guy who gots no damn skill but throws haymakers and got ktfo in the 1st round by a feather fisted journeymen? Canelo would TKO him trust me. Canelo vs lara is not an easy fight for lara, lara will miss just like trout did, canelo has an underrated defense. And lara has no chin, one bomb by canelo and he's down. Since when is angulo a top dog? Quit speaking complete bullsh*t. He's only 23 and stepped to face the p4p king which there's no shame losing. 22 and was a lineal champ at 154 and the best 154 pounder in the world.

He is over hyped, but he is young and has a lot of potential.

12 rounds against FMJ ain't hype.

He built his reputation on beating faded legends, blown up lighter fighters and the brothers of famous guys. Trout is his only win of note on his record and the fix was in with the open scoring etc. I think the main players at 154 like Angullo, Lara and Kirkland would smoke him. Thoughts?
