Sugar Shane Mosley vs Roberto Duran at Lightweight...Who Wins?

This would be an interesting fight but not a difficult one to call. We know which Duran will show up. The only question is if he trains for the fight.

.

In the beginning, Mosley was a quick fisted boxer. However, once he realized he could knock guys out, he abandoned his boxing ability. Unfortunately, he took this attitude to 147.

.

Mosley was really a welterweight who boiled down to 135 for the weigh-in, giving himself a slight advantage over some opponents. That wouldn't make a difference against Duran. At prime, Duran was a full-lightweight and he even carried all his advantages, including his power, to welterweight. Only his choice to not train often was a weakness.

.

Mosley would win the early rounds with his speed. The problem is that people tend to think Mosley is an all-around fast fighter. That's a misconception. Think of Floyd Patterson. People often credit him as the fastest boxer in heavyweight history. It really depends on how you recognize and define speed.

.

Patterson had fast Hands. However, his foot work was only average. In comparison, ALI could get from one side of the ring to the other with little effort. The same thing applies to Mosley, Fast Hands, Average Feet.

.

You might even give Mosley credit for above average feet. Whatever the case, Duran would have no trouble finding him. It's more likely that Mosley won't try to escape.

.

Duran is a debilitating body puncher. Mosley is known for his body work as well but Duran would surely have the edge here. Mosley's hand speed would be a problem early. However, Duran's body attack slows Mosley down by round 6.

.

Mosley, being too brave for his own good, begins to swell up. He still lands flurries but Duran avoids many of them and even more as the rounds mount and Mosley's vision worsens.

.

By round 9, Duran is slipping the jab, countering with rights to the same eye, and landing body shots regularly. Mosley puts up a brave fight but Duran's attack intensifies.

.

In round 10, Duran lands a right flush on Mosley's cheek bone. It swells more. As Mosley paws at the wound, Duran digs in a body shot, elbows Mosley to the ropes and lands another right flush on the chin. Mosley sinks to the canvas.

.

Mosley rises and Duran moves in and lands another heavy flurry of punches to the body, followed by a short right to the chin, sending Mosley to the canvas again. Mosley struggles to rise but the referee waves him off, ending the fight.

Duran by KO in 10

That would be a great fight man, Duran is probably the best lightweight of all time but that don't mean no one beats him plus it's already proven because he lost to De Jesus.

I think Mosley kinda fell in love with his power and would be to eager to get into a fire fight rather than use his boxing skills, and obviously that's not a good idea vs Duran. Mosley would have his moments here and there with some good shots but overall i think Duran would be too much for Mosley and he would win a comfortable but hard fought decision.

Duran was a beast at lightweight. Nobody touches him there. Duran by KO inside 8 rounds.

No one at 135 beats Duran.
