Thomas Hearns vs Felix Trinidad. Power hitters with fragile chins. Who gets knocked out first?

Manny Steward was one of the smartest trainers ever. He was certainly smarter than Tito Sr. He would know that Tito would aim at Hearns' chin soon. Tito is normally a slow starter. Ask Fernando Vargas his take on that theory.

.

Both man could put men to sleep with one punch. The big difference here is speed. Hearns would box Tito's ears off. Oscar de la Hoya exposed Trinidad as a one dimensional fighter. He's exciting but he can't fight going backwards worth anything. Hearns would certainly back Tito up.

.

The other flaw in Tito's style, which would be easily exposed by the taller, faster Hearns, is his tendency to shrug slightly before throwing the left hook. A sharp eyed opponent would see that coming a mile away. This is why I think Duran would also have exploited Tito. He was a master at catching telegraph punchers.

.

Somewhere during round four, Tito would land a solid shot and back Hearns up. However, as he comes in for the kill, Hearns regroups and times that telegraphed left coming in. Trinidad never sees the right that lands first.

.

Hearns by KO in 4.

Trinidad could not get to Hearns. Tommy coldcocks Felix in the second round.

Agree with Stick. Trinidad was a slow starter and Hearns would be on his *** from the get go.

Hearns would win by ko. Tito isn't that good and oscar schooled em for 8 rounds

I think Hearns would've lit Tito up early, before Tito could get anything going.

Both guys have jelly chins but Hearns is faster. He gets there first.

Hearns by UD

Hearns would win. He was even able to give SRL tough fights.

Hearns is quicker and a bigger hit. , for me he ko's Tito.

Tommy because of his size and reach advantages and his long left jab, which perfectly sets up his killer right hand.

Harrns had been stopped four times in his five losses in 67 bouts, once at welterweight ( Sugar Leonard ), twice at middleweight (Marvin Hagler and Iran Barkley ) and once at cruiserweight ( by retirement to Uriah Grant ). But he won 61 fights, 48 by KO/TKO including over the likes of Dennis Andries, Andrew Maynard, Roberto Duran, Pipino Cuevas, Jeff MacCracken, Randy Shield, Juan Domingo Roldan and Angel Espada who were known bombers themselves. He also held points wins over the tough James Kinchen, Michael Olajide, Wilfred Benitez, Virgil Hill, Murray Sutherland and Doug Dewitt, among others. He was leading comfortably on points when he got stopped by Leonard and upset by Barkley. His fight versus Hagler was a classic and cited as among the best fights in boxing history. He was held to a controversial draw by Leonard in their rematch at 168 lbs. in a fight many believe that he deserved to win on points after knocking down Sugar a few times and having him in trouble in many stretches and surviving Sugar's own desperate attempt in the later rounds.

Trinidad on the other hand was undefeated in his first 40 fights mostly at welterweights and a few at junior middleweight and once before at middleweight, winning 33 by KO/TKO before meeting his master in Bernard Hopkins in a unification match at middleweight. He would lose twice more to Winky Wright and past prime Roy Jones Jr. by wide decisions. He held KO wins over the likes of Freddie Pendleton,Maurice Blocker, Ricardo Mayorga, William Joppy, Fernando Vargas, Oba Carr, Yori Boy Campas Troy Waters and Hugo Pineda and points wins over Oscar de la Hoya ( controversial MD), past prime Pernell Whitaker and Hector Macho Camacho and a still little raw David Reid.

But none of the fighters Tito met approximated the quality of Hearns nor the quality of the fighters Hearns faced in his prime as equally prime Hagler, Leonard, Duran, Benitez, Hill and Cuevas at 147 to 175 lbs.

Hearns suffered his losses in virtual shoot-outs especially against Hagler and Barkley while Trinidad was methodically worn down by Hopkins and outclassed and outpointed by Wright and Jones Jr.

Hearns was known as well for his boxing skills as his ability to knockout the opposition especially at welterweight and junior middleweight. Most of Hearns KO wins came after he had set them up by outboxing his opponents using his height and reach advantage to launch stiff ramrod jabs His hooks and crosses were pile-drivers.

I think Hearns would approach this fight versus Trinidad wary and well aware of the Puerto Rican's own punching power and KO capability I think his corner will try to prevent the pitfalls of the first Leonard and Barkley fights and the war with Hagler They will most like note Trinidad's difficulties with boxers as ODLH, Whitaker and Camacho and plan for Hearns to stick and move and only plant his feet to throw his own bombs when he has Trinidad out balanced or outmaneuvered. Tito will most like be at the end of Tommy's ramrod jabs for most of the early rounds and once he is damaged and softened enough and on the retreat, Hearns will take over to finish the job either by late round stoppage or clear cut UD 12.
