Who made the greatest comeback in history?

and why?

George Foreman 10 years retired comes back to win the Lineal WBA & IBF Heavyweight titles at the age of 45 and then at the age of 46 he wins the WBU.

I would have to say Sugar Ray Leonard did on April 6,1987, when he won a majority decision in 12 rounds against World Middleweight Champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler, to win the title, after a two year absence from the ring. Sugar Ray boxed and moved as if he had never been away, scoring repeatedly as Hagler plodded forward. Ray took Marvin's best punches as Marvelous tired. Hagler never asked for a rematch and simply retired after that bout. This bout had been 3 years in the works as a fight that the public wanted..Many say that judging from that bout that Hagler would have had difficulty against the great counter punchers from the past.

Greatest comebacks ever, on top of my head!

1. Big George Foreman. Foreman became the oldest HW champ in a fight he certainly is gonna lose if not for the KO. i think its way back 1995 vs Moorer

2. SRR when he defeated Hagler. Leonard had a 2 year lay off to fight his biggest fight and his toughest one. Although controversial and a lot of fans including me thought it should go MArvin's way, it's a great comeback indeed for the Sugar Man

3. Floyd unretiring and schooling JMM after 2 years in a furlough. JMM is easily one among the best in counter punching but there has to be a greater one and its gotta be floyd. Great fight and great comeback for the defensive master -Floyd Mayweather

sugar ray leonard vs marvin hagler ..ray had had one fight in 5 years after a detached retina then came back to beat one of the greatest middle weights ever .

Georgw Foreman.

Career wise, it have to be foreman or pep, foreman by a slight edge. But in one fight, it goes to corrales.

I would have said George Foreman but as he already has been mentioned I will mention Johnny Tapia. He was suspended from boxing in 1990, he returned in 1994 and within six months was WBO super flyweight champion, he would go on to win titles in two more divisions. I don't think any other boxer has captured a world title so soon after such a long layoff.

I did.

Because I'm awesome.
