Boxing: Can Floyd be a PPV success without a Mexican opponent?

Nice question Sean. Mexican fans is a powerhouse in boxing. They were sports minded people. To gauge Floyd's real popularity without a Hispanic opponent is if Floyd fight on his projected date of May especially the 5th and Canelo is true to his words that he will take back the date by by fighting on the same date or near the said date.

Revenues in a fight is not being gauge using the draw alone but also with the presence of a quality opponent. I really doubt if Floyd can generate near the revenue generated in his last fight without a Hispanic opponent unless it is against an opponent with a good number of followings like Pacquiao who is not a Mexican.

To cut it short, I would say no and not even against Thurman Thomas, Amir Khan and I would guess he won't fight GGG.

Floyd would still be a PPV success in terms of numbers and profit. However, he would always be more successful with a Mexican opponent. Here's why.

.

People are fueled by sensationalism. If they like you, they can't stop praising you. If they hate you, they can't stop complaining. Unfortunately, there are a greater number of people in society who thrive on negativity than on positive. It's a weak trait but people tend to take the easy way out. Think of it this way.

.

Why do bullies bully? Why are mean people mean? Because they can get away with it. Would a bully bully someone he doesn't know anything about? Not unless he had mad back-up.

.

There are more losers than winners in life. There are more dumb people than smart people. People love to hate because it's much easier to do. Loving takes work and effort. It's a challenge because you have nothing to hide behind.

.

That said, Floyd would always be more successful with a Mexican opponent than without. The promoters would certainly sell racism. It's a shame because it would be nice to attend a boxing match without that weak flaw in the human psyche.

.

The reason Floyd would still be successful is because people not only hate him but they love to hate him. The more people who hate him, the easier it becomes for yet another. You can't hate someone everyone likes.

.

Just look at Victor Ortiz. He fouled Floyd because he's a dirty cowardly fighter. However, he also did it because he figured no one would make a big deal. It's Floyd and everyone hates him.

.

That's so easy for some. People would still pay to see Floyd lose, no matter who he fights.

Of course he can, the standards are so high that 900k buys are considered a failure even though they are the highest numbers of the year.

Fighting a popular Mexican fighter like Canelo will obviously help but as long as the opponent is well-known and is perceived to be a threat then the numbers can be big as shown with his PPV numbers vs Cotto and Mosley.

I want those dates returned to us Latinos. I'm tired of that loud mouth criminal African (hell no I don't consider him an American and I never will). The public needs to stop falling for his high reward low risk opponents, smoke and mirrors, etc. Start investing in REAL boxers like Canelo - guys that fight all challengers. Not some African that has the advantages including the ref. Ducks people. Cherry picks. Etc. That article has a point, we want to see him defeated. That gift vs jlc is the only reason why he is where he is at. Without us Latinos, that criminal would be fighting on undercards and be on Tim Bradley status - low fan base and fail to draw flies.

Yes Him vs Mosley was like 1.4 million. He could fight on any date and Mexicans would buy it because we love to watch boxing regardless.

YES AND NO.

Yes if Floyd gets his ballz back and fight elites opponent, Mexicans or not.

No if he keeps on picking class C fighters.

no, he was successful hyping up any lowrisk fight he takes..

doesnt matter if the opponent is mexican or not
