Boxing: If Kovalev wins in November, does he get full credit for beating a near 50 year old name?

...or does he still have to prove himself against Stevenson?

Hopkinks is still at the top of his division at nearly 50 years old. He will have a belt and world class experience going into their fight. I think Kovalev deserve some credit because Hopkins is an elite fighter despite his age.

I'm definitely looking forward to this fight because they are looking to unify titles. Hopefully, the winner takes on Adonis Stevenson by next year. A title unification between the best Light Heavyweights is good for boxing.

He should get some credit for ending the guys career. But a win over Stevenson is better because he's the lineal champ and then after taking him out he'd be the undisputed champion at light heavyweight with all 4 straps and the lineal title

Still has to prove himself. Hopkins is doing awesome things at his age, but realistically he has been struggling versus journeymen. Kovalev needs to beat Stevenson to prove he's truly #1

He still has to prove himself against Stevenson, but Stevenson did ''jump ship'' when the fight was being made, so if Stevenson still evades him i will give Kovalev credit, not Stevenson.

If he cant get past old BHop, he'll be the laughing stock of the world. Man, that's a 50 year he's up against. Looks to me like Kovalev wont be able to do anything right. He's in that situation. It's damn if he does fight and beat Bernard. And damn if he didnt. Whatever he does, he loses

Maybe not but it would be fun reading post belittling and criticizing the win. I read answers saying BHop is the man and I can imagine how this will turn when the Krusher beat the over staying fighter.

Beating 50 year old alien doesn't mean as much as beating the reigning champion.

Hopkins is just another boxer he has to get past to reach the top. He'll get credit if he is the first to KO Hopkins, but he will still get people calling him a hype job.
