Boxing: What do you guys think if the possibility of Broner jumping 2 weight classes?

Al Haymon approved Malinaggi as an opponent.

i dont understand why you people are rushing the lad..he is just 23 and has years ahead of him...he should first jump up to 140 by 2014-15 and fight the likes of Khan,Rios and Garcia before thinking to go up to 147.

If this actually goes down it would be an extremely dumb decision and once again make me ask what is Haymon getting paid for? Broner is on the right track inside the ring, has a few attention gimmicks for outside of it and there's no need to risk all that for a short-term payday that does nothing for his marketability. If he packs on the muscle mass to reach 147 that would pretty much kill any chance at 140 without putting himself at risk. If he gets up there via water and fat that will cause physical problems against Malinaggi, which could provide a savvy vet just enough to win and that would end any notion of Broner becoming a superstar.

It's a safe fight for Broner. Malinaggi can't break an egg and Al Haymon knows this. Paulie does have good boxing skills and he'll test Broner for a few rounds but Broner will start to carve him up midway through the fight and his skills will dominate and probably stop Paulie late in the fight. Broner should move to 140, where there are a lot of serious challenges for him. The fact that's he seems to want to skip 140 sends a red flag in my mind. Maybe he's not as confident as he acts.

I am not a huge fan of Broner's impersonation of the "Money" persona, but I acknowledge that he has displayed amazing gifts in the ring. That said, Broner is a big 135 pounder. Not big as in height, but big as in he had to move of to 135 because he couldn't make 130 anymore. He could easily move up to 140 today if he wanted to. He has the mass to do it, all he has to do is not cut as much water weight. I don't see that moving up to 147 to face Malinaggi as an opponent is such a gasp inducing moment. Malignaggi is a light puncher who has relied on his slickness and quickness to beat opponents. He is also getting long in the tooth and has taken quite a bit more punishment that he is used to in his last several fights. Now if Broner stays at 147 he is in his "big brother" Floyd's playground. If this is not just a cheap publicity stunt then I expect the two best fighter and those who presume to be the best in the world to get it on.

All in all I say it is a good move for boxing but not too sure if camp Broner has thought it through all the way. He is taking on a very good fighter in Malignaggi just like Mayweather when he took on Marquez, but there isn't really any danger in the match. The difference is that Mayweather fought Marquez at a catch weight within his natural at the time, Welterweight division and Marquez came to him. If Broner moves up to 147, then he would then have to stay there or move down into the talent rich 140 pound division, so his relatively easy rise is coming to an end with this move. If he dares go back to 135, there would be no other real way to interpret it than that he is cherry picking beatable opponents.

I don 't like it but as we have seen Broner is a unique talent . If he does jump two weight classes he has picked the right opponent Paulie is a light fisted puncher . Broner would have to walk Paulie down because there is no way Paulie would stand in front of Broner.

I think he wants to be like Floyd Mayweather too much. Why be the second Floyd Mayweather when he can be the first Adrien Broner?
