Boxing: Who is the superior boxer Andre Ward or Gennady Golovkin?

Someone here suggested Golovkin is a superior boxer. I disagree. Your thoughts?

They are both great boxers ,the only difference is that we have already seen what Andre Ward can do at a high level while Golvkin hasn't been tested yet ,but he has a strong amateur pedigree after defeating Andy Lee ,Andre Dirrell and Lucian Bute as an amateur and it takes more than just punching power to defeat them.

I guarantee you that if Golvkin steps it up in competition and fought a top 10 middleweight ,he will display all his boxing skills ,he doesn't display all his skills yet because he hasn't need to ,sort of like Lou Ferrigno arm wrestling a little boy ,Lou Ferrigno doesn't have to give his all to beat the kid ,same thing applies to Golvkin thus far until he fights a top 10 opponent.

Anyone who says Golovkin only has enough interest in boxing to watch a 4 minute highlight reel on YouTube. GGG hasn't even fought a top 10 middleweight, in winning the super 6 Ward beat every top 168 pounder in the world. He may not be as exiting to watch, but Ward is in a different league to Golovkin.

The great thing about having Punching Power is that you always have fan support and you're always in for an exciting fight. The downside to having great Punching Power is that those fighters, typically, end up overrated.

I might not win any fans with this comment but from my own observations guys who can punch the vast majority of the time are overrated as it relates to pure skill. A lot of them get matched soft, some of them never truly develop into complete fighters, and as fans we don't see that because were to busy waiting for the knockout.

The Middleweight division has been filled with guys who were great punchers but being a great puncher doesn't automatically equal a great fighter. From a skill perspective Andre Ward has proven to be a great fighter that can handle a multitude of styles.

I was excited about Gennady Golovkin but the"Hype" is getting out of control at this point. Were talking about a guy who's yet to face the best fighter of his division and were already "crowning" him and talking about matches with the likes of Andre Ward and Floyd Mayweather.

I'd like to see Golvkin face someone like Sergio Martinez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr before I even pretend I'm interested in seeing him versus Andre Ward. Ward is the Floyd Mayweather of anything beyond the Middleweight division. He has the ability to make great fighters look average and I think he'd do the same with Golvkin.

People are overestimating Ward's boxing skills. Hes a great insdie fighter I'll give him that but his skills from long range are lacking. Andre Direll is much better pure boxer than Ward but I'd favor Ward cause he'll close the distance and make it a rough fight which Ward does better than anyone especially defensively which is harder to do from close range

Ward is one of the most old school fighters today, I dont know who wins, him or GGG but for eachs division I might give the edge to Golovkin. Ward does have the frame of a LHW, I'd like to see him fight the champs in that division cause the one hes in now is thin, only Direll, Edwin Rodriguez and Steiglets are somewhat credible challengers but I'd like to see him move up

If by superior boxer you mean the better technical boxer then Ward. GGG is more of a ko artist.

If by superior boxer you mean who would beat who, then Andre is better for now. GGG is newer to the game, he needs more experience.

Still, i feel Ward is overrated. He has very few title defenses yet he is ranked above Wladimir in Rings p4p list. It's all business, not fact. Wladimir has thoroughly dominated the heavyweight division this last decade yet Ward, who just won his first real title in 09 & only has 2 of them, is a better p4p fighter? Ward hasn't even cleaned the division, Wladimir cleaned it years ago.

I like Golovkin and all but who has he fought? No one. He's all hype till he beats one elite fighter. He hasn't been tested and that chin hasn't been tested either. So no Ward is still better.
