Gennady Golovkin elected Fighter of the Year. Thoughts?

He was voted by the FANS and NOT by fight experts. He fought four times last year but none against top 5 middleweight fighters and none against promising prospects. Gabe Rosado was at best in the lower rung of the middleweights and was even beaten by young prospect JLeon Love, Matt Macklin had previously been stopped by the injury-prone Sergio Martinez, Naburo Ishida was not even rated. Ishida gained fame by beating James Kirkland by upset KO in 2011 ( but Kirkland was burning himself out by fighting his third fight inside two months since coming back from a prison term the previous year and fighting without proper training as he was yet to be reunited with his brilliant lady trainer Ann Wolfe. Mandingo has since come back strongly with Wolfe scoring wins over the dangerous Carlos Molina, Perro Angulo and Glen Tapia, the last two by scintillating KOs. Golovkin's last win was against another unknown lower-rung contender Curtis Stevens who even threatened him and almost took him to the distance. He has yet to meet the likes of Felix Sturm, Peter Quillin, Darren Barker, Geale, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and of course, Sergio Martinez. Fans as a whole are impressionable bunch.

Adonis Stevenson, Floyd Mayweather, Tim Bradley, Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia , Guillermo Rigondeux even guys like Leo Santa Cruz and Akira Yaegashi who fought less often by against top rated or champion opposition on winning rolls themselves before they fought them are more deserving than GGG, in my opinion.

Tims garbage period. Rigo no one likes the guys style. Garcia and Adonis were much more worthy.

GGG deserved it. He hasn't beaten the best yes, But what can he do? The best out there are just too scared to face him.

that's the fan poll

GGG seems to be the most dodged fighter in boxing but he hasn't beaten the best in his division. Personally i think Adonis Stevenson, Guillermo Rigo, Timothy Bradley & Danny Garcia were more noteworthy.
