HBO won't do bussiness with Golden Boy, what would be the impact of this in boxing?

Of course HBO is hurt but they let it happen because they know Mayweather is an aging superstar and there was nothing else substantial that GB could offer.

The only big money making fighters with Golden Boy are Canelo Alvarez [whos stock recently plummeted] & Floyd Mayweather who is near retirement.

Their future relies on fighters like;

Deontay Wilder [who was knocked out in amateurs & as long as he dodges Klitschko's his stock wont ever go up],

Peter Quilins [who will likely never be a superstar with GGG in the way].

Danny Garcia [who's biggest fights have all been close even against not so great fighters, thus he lacks the shine to carry the sport].

Basically all that GB has of large value is an old man near retirement [Floyd Mayweather].

I believe Adrien Broners recent loss is the crack that made HBO sever all ties.

@STICK AND MOVE

HBO & TopRank has more top p4p fighters than GoldenBoy/ShowTime.

They also have the better Olympic recruits.

Statistics don't lie.

Golden Boy has a great rooster at 147lbs but that's it.

@STICK AND MOVE

Research the Ring top 10 p4p fighters. Only 3 are in ShowTime, 7 are with HBO.

Statistics don't lie.

The welterweight division is not the only division in boxing.

The only reason they decided this was because they were butthurt that Mayweather signed the 6 fight Showtime/CBS contract in february 2013. I think it was march 2013 they announced they would no longer work with GB.

All of the GB fighters Floyd would be fighting plus the stacked undercards e.g. Garcia vs Matthysse. There's no way HBO would have done this if Mayweather didn't sign the contract.

It will have a great effect on boxing, at first i thought it'd be bad but as we have seen there has been great competition between the networks trying to out do the other. This means that many times the best fights will be happening and that can only be a good thing for the fans.

As long as they have Mayweather, Ellerbe and Schaefer, Golden Boy will be fine, with or without HBO. While they put on more shows than Showtime, Showtime approaches HBO in terms of number of viewers and PPV sales.

.

This is primarily because of Floyd Mayweather. Now, when Floyd retires, GB will take a hit in terms of it's overall promotional power. They still have a deep roster of fighters and they still have "Power broker" Leonard Ellerbe. If Ellerbe decides to continue doing business with GB, after Mayweather retires, this would be good for Showtime.

.

De la Hoya is only a figurehead. He's virtually useless. However, anything is negotiable. If Ellerbe and Schaefer continue to do business together, I suspect HBO's "sabbatical" would be short lived and they'll smarten up and renew their business dealings with GB. ........ The only downside is that Oscar will have more money to do more coke.

You seem to think that HBO banning Golden Boy from putting shows on their network hurts Golden Boy.

That's completely wrong. In this situation, if anyone is going to have problems from the ban , it's most definitely HBO.

I'm postive that GB would LIKE to have fights on HBO, but Golden Boy doesn't NEED to have fights on HBO. The fact that HBO banned GB fights on their network is retarded and financially an extremely retarded move.

Golden Boy has Showtime, and it hasnt' hurt them at all. The numbers that Showtime did last year in terms of boxing viewership was tremendous, and almost on par w/ HBO's numbers. Why is that so good? Because HBO has something like TWICE as many subscribers.

Top Rank is a big promotion, but Golden Boy is the best promotion out there right now and BY FAR has the deepest roster of elite fighters.

The fact that HBO is missing out on all of Golden Boy's talent and potential fights hurts them badly, whereas it doesn't really hurt GB at all considering Showtime is a big arena where they can broadcast their fights.

Oh yeah, GB also has a nice little CBS deal as well, and you can't say the same for Top Rank/HBO....

@Ray: No, they don't. TR has a GREAT pool of prospects, guys like Lomanchenko, Verdejo, Jessie Magdelano, etc..

But as it stands, Golden Boy has maaaany more elite fighters and a much deeper roster. That's seriously not even up for debate, just think about how they can put on quadruple headers w/ all elite level guys or serious contenders on Showtime, and stack their undercards.

TR can't even put on a good tripleheader, and all of their undercards are dog sh*t. You know why that is? Because their roster is shallow and not nearly as full of elite guys as Golden Boys' is.

You've just been taught, student.

Golden Boy fighters can't fight Top Rank fighters, same as before.

Difference is that Golden Boy has better fighters and they now fight for Showtime. HBO also lost it's biggest draw, Floyd Mayweather withat contract.

HBO is hurt by their decision more than Golden Boy.

When cable networks get into a pissing contest they lose.

There are too many other networks that will carry an event.

When the big organisations fall out... It's always the fans that are left short..

1990 Don king took Mike Tyson away from HBO and Brought him to Showtime. HBO Sports refused to do further business with Don King Promotion.. that was the down time of Don King promotion and his fighters..
