Pacquiao being linked to Mayweathers name and fighting opponents Mayweather has fought can only help pay-per-view buys. If Pacquiao was to lose the match, people would just look for another opponent who can make Mayweather taste defeat. Excuses from Arum ranged from a cut on Pacquiao, a new stadium needing to be bulit, Mayweather demanding to much money and Mayweather being scared.
The truth of the matter is, that if Pacquiao left Bob Arum, the fight would have happened. Arum didnt want risk having his cash cow lose. If they had the match, great. Lots of money in the short term but not in the long run. No match equals Pacquiao consistently genarating great numbers for the long term and Mayweather is the more hated boxer so most of the blame is shifted to him.
Basically, thats what went through Arum's head. If Pacquiao won, he would be on the road to even bigger numbers but for the fight, Mayweather would still have been the favourite to win
