Is amateur boxing a relatively safe sport can you get brain damage or its unlikely?

i know there is gonna be black eyes, swollen eyes, cuts but i'm talking about long term damage.

Long term contact sports of any kind , boxing , wrestling, MMA, football, hockey...etc.

Are all sports that can be rewarding... and cause long term damage depending on the person and the circumstances.

BUT I am talking pro boxing. Amatuer boxing is fairly safe with the headgear to protect your head and the oversized gloves used to protect the other boxer and your hands. Amatuer boxing is good for learning and getting into physical shape and the discipline it takes to dedicate yourself to something worthy.

You may even one day be a pro and become Champion who knows. But the amateurs are tame compared to the Professional game. There you have only your skill and heart to keep going as far as you can.

This is a relatively safe sport when compared to football and other contact sports.

However, there is danger in long term injury in all sports, or even walking across the street.

The danger for long term injury is relative to your time in the sport and your ability to not get hit in the head on a regular basis.

If you fight for many years and have a style that has you leading with your head and constantly hitting your opponent in the gloves with your face, then you are more likely to suffer long term injuries than someone that does not fight as much and avoids getting hit in the head.

Head gear only gives a larger target it does nothing to protect the brain therefore it is not at all safer. All it does is protect from cuts

If someone is hitting your head, and this happens over time, what would you think?
