Is it possible to block while moving forward? Why isn't this technique used as much in boxing?

Some boxers can do that, block punches while moving forward. Patterson and Tyson with their famous peek-a-boo defense; Archie Moore, Sonny Liston and later on Joe Frazier with cross-arms defense. Even Floyd Mayweather with his body armor and shoulder roll defense. Most fighters can do that by employing the usual high-guard or so-called antenna defense. But in most cases, these types of defense obscure the view of the opponent and do not facilitate instant counter offense unless the concerned fighter has quicker hands and better hands-to-feet coordination.

I am curious to know what martial arts style cover up techniques are you talking about that could be used legally in boxing. .

The idiot that stated 'Right hook all day' what a moron even if this was referring to a southpaw, because there actually is not a right hook in any practical boxing from the orthodox stance!

Now to the question-Yes, of course it is possible to block while moving forward, how could any one even think it wasn't? From the peek-aboo that Tyson had to styles like 2 time amateur world champion and former world lightweight champion Leonard Dorin this happens so often in boxing it is startling anyone that has ever had a boxing glove on could seriously ask this question-

See Roy Jones vs Trinidad

See Tim Witherspoon

First off, Rocky is a movie and they're not real boxers and it wasnt a real boxing match. In regards to your question though, it is possible to block while moving forward; however, in order to not compromise one's speed and footwork, its not practical to simply put your two pillars up while moving forward. In boxing, they utilize head movement, slipping and moving, and shoulder rolls as the common methods of defence in forward movement.

if your moving forward , don't you think you should have your hands ready to punch instead of hide. there is a way to move forward and cover yourself but you have to practice it lots it is called blocking punches and bobbing and weaving. i have 2 hands you have 2 hands you can't hit me with 2 hands at the same time, so you have to learn to use your hands or gloves in this case to block the punches if he try's to punch you in the sides you need to block them with your elbows and arms, same with stomach.

Joshua Clottey used that against MAnny PAcquiao

what you can do is lead with the jab and guard with your back hand.

right hook all day

In the first Rocky movie at certain intervals during the fight with Apollo Creed, Rocky is shown as covering his face literally with his gloves while moving forward towards Apollo to strike him.

I now am really wondering. I know some martial arts style have such cover ups to protect yourself while moving towards your opponent. Why isn't this technique used much in boxing? I understand the basic guard alone is enough to protect yourself as you move forward but against sluggers and swarmers wouldn't it be best to cover yourself up completely while you move forward tot hem?
