The Fight
Early in the fight Thomas would be the aggressor but wouldn't land any real significant punches as Toney ;looks for an opening in his defense. Around the 7th round Toney would have started landing some really good counter righthands and would wobble Thomas with a few of these well timed shots. In round 8 Toney would land a big bomb after a brief exchange sending Thomas down for the count.
James Toney KO8
Thomas looked good against Weaver but lost in his very next title defense against Trevor Berbick. He was a trial horse fighter after that, losing one-sided fights to Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Riddick Bowe and Tommy Morrison. For all intents and purposes, Pinklon was a solid, durable journeyman, capable of giving the division's elite a couple of rounds before folding in the later rounds by TKO stoppage. Toney out-boxes, out-slicks Pinklon Thomas in a one-sided fight, stopping Thomas by an eight round TKO.
I like James Toney in this one, Thomas was a slick boxer, but so was James, and James had a chin like a fire hydrant.
I have to go with James Toney in this fight. I liked him more than Thomas when considering their careers.
