who would have won a unifaction match between bantamweight champions lupe pintor and jeff chandler in the 1980's and why.

Lupe Pinter was one of the most aggressive little men of his time and although controversial, won the bantemweight title from the great Carlos Zarate, ( Some say the best bantimweight fight in history)and defended the crown 8 times. I was at the Olympic Auditorium the night he fought a brutal 14 rounds with the Merthyr Matchstick. KOing Johnny Owen in the 14th round. As they took Johnny out of the ring on a stretcher, the crowd was throwing beer on him. Owen later died of his injuries. Pinter was never the same after fighting Wilfredo Gomez. But you could say that about a lot of fighters.

Chandler on the other hand was a better boxer but he would never have stood up to the swarming style and pure aggressiveness of Pinter. Chandler also defended the bantemweight crown 8 times and actual was a two time champ.

Pinter though was just too aggressive and was a skilled boxer to go along with his relentlessness in the ring, never allowing his opponent to get off unless they wanted to slug it out.

Pinter by KO. Maybe if Chandler got on his horse for the entire night he'd end up losing a UD, but Lupe Pinter wins this one.

I saw both of these co-champions fight on national tv. Joltin Jeff chandler had this short sized woman, Becky O Neil,l I believe was her name. She managed Jeff really good. He had a good defense and a stiff left jab, also a crushing right hand. He fought in a conventional stand up style, he had quick hands. Guadalupe Pintor defeated the great Carlos Zarate in June 1979, for the WBC Bantamweight Title. Jeff held the WBA Bantamweight Title. Pintor could box, but after the death of opponent Johnny Owen, he was never the same. I see Pintor and Chandler battling at ring center, for the first 5 rounds, Chandler countering his every move. Then in round 6, Pintor changes strategy and fights his way inside as Richie Sandoval would fight Jeff in April 1984. Chandler lands a whip like right hand, opening a huge gash over Lupe's right eye. There is blood splattering everywhere, and Chandler has his boxing trunks turn a crimson color. In round 7, Jeff goes after Lupe's cut eye, and Pintor's eye is a gory mess. The referee calls for the ringside physician who without hesitation stops the fight. Chandler is winner by TKO, in the 7th round. Chandler would remark later that his ribs were bruised and that he was badly shaken in round 4.

This is a fine match up sir. I am a big fan of both fighters but being from PA my self .I have to go with Jolten Jeff Chandler. I am not saying I would bet my money on this fight because Lupe Pintor would not give it away. Great fight. Jeff was a better boxer and had a very long reach for this division but the big thing was Jeff's power every thing he threw had knock out written all over it.

This would be a good match up Lupe Pintor has god some hard fought decisions in his day that could of gone the other way, so this is one that I think would be a hard fought competitive fight where the decision would not go in his favor.

I was a huge pintor fan but he was one dimensional....attack and batter, attack and batter...he lacked spearing jab...he was barrel-chested and lead with his chest and by exyension his chin...natutally, Chandler would've played the matadorand usually, the matador wins...
