I have often said of every welterweight in the history of boxing, Tommy Hearns would have given Floyd the most trouble. His reach, power and intelligence would be a hard combination to overcome. I dont see it being easy and since Floyd has fought hitters and never been KO'd, i am doubtful of a KO but Hearns wins
Hard, I think floyd may of been too fast for floyd and with his reflexes he could maybe keep away from that right hand, but also hearns is a lot taller. Someone mentioned hearns footwork, are they having a laugh? It is proven that mayweather has one of the best footwork and is the hardest boxer to hit in all time. I think off the top of imagination yes hearns may take this with a early ko before round 4, mayweather never gets tired so i dont see it being a problem if he lasts longer and mayweather always comes in with the same gameplan that nobody can beat. So realistically, the only way you would ever find out the truth is putting them in a ring together. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but no one will actually ever know.
Yes, he would beat Floyd! Floyd could not be defensive against Tommy and win. He would have to fight him! Tommy's jab, length, power and size would be too much for Floyd to handle. Hearns by UD as the "Pretty Boy" leaves the ring for the first time with both eyes swollen shut!
I think so. Floyd wouldn't be able to run from Hearns because Tommy is fast himself. Hearns could box and has an excellent long left jab that would set up his devastating right hand. Once Floyd feels the power of that right hand, he'd lose his edge and try to run some more. But Tommy would cut the ring on him easily because of his size and quickness in his feet. And he'd batter Floyd into a stoppage by round 6.
Hearns wins this, inside the distance. Tommy had good boxing skills and could really work well behind the jab when he chose to box.
Mayweather is an awesome defensive tactician, but I think Tommy is able to control the range with his size and prevent Floyd from doing anything noteworthy on offense.
False. Floyd has better defense that Leonard and better firepower than Benitez, two men with whom he struggled against and even lost ( to Leonard) at 147 and 154 lbs. It's not as if Floyd would just stand there and allow Hearns to hit him at will. Come on, get real!
Without question Thomas Hearns was a dangerous opponent for any fighter between 147 and 160 lbs weight class. nuff said !
